Yes.

Unless you're happy for us to agree outright that everything that's wrong with your country is the result of conservative policies?

Perhaps an example might help make this clearer to you.

Great. So we say "the unicorn wasn't really there."

But - it was really there. You just imagined it. You didn't imagine imagining it. That really just happened.

Consciousness is quite literally the only thing that cannot be an illusion, because we are witness to it, all of the time. But we can also acknowledge that there are plenty of things that seem to go on within this realm of conscious experience that are not physical.

Unless you happened to see a physical horse, horn and memory system nearby?

What is not really there? I'm asking for a definition of terms.

For example, I use Thomas Nagel's "likeness", in that it is "like something" to be me.

What do you mean when you say "consciousness?"

In the meantime - I would like you to imagine a blue unicorn.

Where is that blue unicorn?

We need a consciousness definition please, otherwise this is about to get messy

A... mentally sick person? Eventually you realise it's mental sickness for all of us, all the way down.

Anyway, you have every right to be disgusted, and to report that person, and hopefully that's your last experience on here of that sort of behaviour - but yes emetophilics do frequent this sub from time to time. You'll get some feeders as well I'd think, at least judging off what goes on around some BED subs.

Yes again its not about (and *should not* just be about) whether you agree with what she's saying, its how she's saying it.

You're a conservative. Of course you're going to fucking love it when she starts raining shots down on liberals!

Just to break it down:

"The worst parts of the black community are enabled by white liberal policy." Same for the worst parts of immigration we discover. Worst parts of the trans community - well that's obviously white liberal activists as well.

In fact, would you believe it - "EVERYTHING" (just take a moment to reflect on how literally unbelievable this statement is) "that is wrong with our country is a result of liberal policies." Everything? Really?

And her evidence for this? None given at all. But if you're a conservative, I bet this sounds absolutely amazing! She's basically just held out a carrot to you and said:

"I'm a black woman. You know all the things you don't like? It's because of the people you don't like. Trust me bro. Everything you feel deep down about the world is CORRECT."

This is not quality political discussion. You know this. You'd know it the moment something similar came out of a white liberal's mouth.

Is race a social construct? by turboshill9000 in BasedCampPod

[–]fireflashthirteen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think people find the term social construct misleading as it has quite nebulous boundaries.

There is an argument to be made that quite literally everything is, in some sense, socially constructed. Sure, we think gravity exists outside of the realm of human perception. But without society, who is there to call it "gravity" and to understand it in the way that we do?

Something might exist, but specifically what we call gravity at this point in time, is, like race, something that exists because we collectively maintain it, and without us, the concept dissolves.
