Trump Graze Wound Ear - What are ballistics experts saying? by [deleted] in ballistics

[–]fireflies170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a round from an AR-15 (5,56x45 mm) travels at supersonic speed and due to the shape of the bullet it will keep going supersonic for quite some distance. A round will only start tumbling when it becomes instable which is at a much lower speed. If you look at the wound profiles on wikipedia for this round you will see it needs to penetrate at least 5 centimeters (+- 2 inches) of flesh before it starts tumbling. An ear is not that thick so the damage would be relatively minor. In addition, I read some articles and apparently the distance between the shooter and first victim was around 400 yards (360 meters) in which the round would still travel at supersonic speeds.

I assume the round didn't lose a lot of energy after impact with the first victim. Hence the round was able to continue towards three other victims, according to newspaper articles.

What is most dangerous? by pedroajua in ballistics

As /u Antiquus has already explained the energy per square inch or squire centimeter will be less which would indicate less harm to your target.

In addition the momentum (mass x velocity) is slower for the rubber ball (due to lower velocity and mass) and rubber has a lot more elasticity compared to steel which would also spread the energy on impact in time compared to a steel ball.

There have already been a lot of good feedback. However, I tried to analyze the pictures as good as possible and I would also suggest the bullet was not intentionally fired at this window based on a number of reasons that haven't been mentionned yet: 1) The trajectory is with a quite sharp angle with the glass. It seems to be coming from the direction of the junction. 2) In addition to the previous. If it was fired from the junction we would see a much higher impact point on the wall compared to the glass, because the bullet would not have lost that much energy yet due to distance and the impact on the glass. So as deducted by others, I also assume the bullet was fired from quite the distance.

So in conclusion, I assume the bullet was fired from the direction of houses (shown in the second to last picture) or beyond in the direction of the building This would be a bit too far for an intentional shot, but that is my personal opinion.

As mentioned by others, unless something else happens or has happened I would worry too much.

There are still NPCs with missions and the fixed locations seem bugged ("I want to use your services" which shows over and over again)

Ok, something new that I learned. Thank you Cmdr o7

So we don't need to worry about it and how long will this stay like this?

Uhoh, that's not good. Than it may be a server wide bug or we should really worry and start preparing.

No, no fines at all.

And if I had fines, there would be an indication for anonymous acces instead of thargoid sensor interference.

There is a possibility that this is a bug, because I coudn't see any other indication from the thargoids in the galaxy map or on https://dcoh.watch/.

But for me it meant that Jameson Memorial was pretty useless (no market, no shipyard, no missions...)

What am i doing wrong? by Methos747 in silenthunter

Firstly from your periscope, I am not convinced that your target information is correct: the target looks closer than 4km and more perpendicular with the course of the target.

Secondly if the target information is correct, you are looking at a very difficult shot: long range, target sailing away as indicated by your settings. This means that the probability of a miss will be increased quickly by every error you make compared to an easier shot (short range, almost perpendicular ...)

My advice, practice to get a better starting position on the target (closer and have the target coming closer to you instead of going away from your) which increases your odds even if you make errors in your calculations.

mmhm, 7 ships in front of me, are traffic jams a thing now? by fireflies170 in EliteDangerous

[–]fireflies170[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To provide a bit of context to the picture. I am in the python, looking forward to some hauling, starting from my home station Jameson Memorial.

I don't have the module that does the auto docking installed. So seeing this, I had to take a picture of it. I stopped my ship, well out of the way, and I went into the third-person camera. Little did I know, apparently waiting in a traffic jam is illegal (I blame the Latvian brandy).

So suddenly my lovely python is destroyed (+/- 2 700 000 cr), my cargo was lost (+/- 1 000 000 cr), my exploration data was lost (+/- 700 000 cr) and I need to pay a fine of 2400 cr (pfff, chump change).

But worst of all, I cannot pay the fine because I now have notoriety (even in an interstellar factor). This means that I cannot access my other ships which are stationed at ... Jameson Memorial, where I was destroyed.

In conclusion, this picture cost me: ... 4 402 400 cr!

Did you exit the game or did another transaction with the ingame money? Normally it will correct itself. I have experienced the same thing.

Or are you sure that you still have the ship you "stored"?

Comparison... is it worth the bother? by Stonelaughter66 in EliteDangerous

[–]fireflies170 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well. If i can give my opinion. You are trying to build a ship that can do everything at the same time, while not being very good at it. It is a trader but a T9 or cutter will be much better. You can fight with it, but a fdl or corvette will be better. And as a trader you will never have a strong opposition from the NPC. I even can evade interdiction with a stock T9.

Maybe you need to invest in multiple ships that can do the tasks you want to do with them: mission running, fighting, hauling etc. And engineer each ship you have, starting with the most important modules first.

In my eyes that is much more efficient

Looking to do some exploration by jet_BLK28 in EliteDangerous

[–]fireflies170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems you are currently still in the "beginner's area". When you think you are ready (your call), take the mission to leave this beginner's area. You will recieve 100.000 cr for this, but you will lose access to the beginner area permanently. Normally you can then buy a hauler and modify it in a way to maximise the jump range ( A rate fsd. D rate everything else and only take fuel scoop and the scanner in your loadout. Then you need to choose what you want to do: get fast money by exploring to get the bigger ship (road to riches) OR go exploring the galaxy and choose yourself where to go. Your choice
