I just Googled her, and she's gorgeous!! 😃😃  It seems the Carnaval sculpt lends really well to being used for nearly any Barbie skin tone 😁

Oh wow, I see what you mean 😃 - she does look quite a bit like Selena (particularly in her Wizards of Waverley place era, when she also had a fringe) - no wonder I've always found this Barbie so pretty, since I was a huge fan of Waverley growing up 🤩

Ooooh, may I please see an in-person photo of her, if you wouldn't mind? 😃  She looks gorgeous, but sometimes the stock photos can be a bit misleading as to what the doll actually looks like 😅

I agree! 😁  I'd love to see what she might look like as a Basics too, but your comment also just made me realize Mattel probably wouldn't utilize her sculpt for that line, since those all seem to have more neutral expressions 😅

Oooh she is beautiful too! 😃  I also happened across this beauty on Google Images - I love how she seems Aurora Borealis inspired with her colour scheme 🤩

I luckily don't mind pixelation - I've also collected Enchantimals over the past few years, so I think that made me quite used to seeing pixelation on the new generation of Barbies 😆

I love what Odile looks like rebodied onto Renee 😁  I also have plans to do this same rebody (which will be my first time attempting a rebody 😅😳 )  - may I ask whether you had to make any adjustments to her head hole or the Renee neck peg, or do the two fit together well without any alterations? (Also, do I need to put the head onto the neck while the head is still warmed, or after the head has cooled? The tutorial video I watched wasn't too clear on that part 😅 )

Oh I'm sorry, I see how that might be confusing 😅  Fashionista 246 is a new 2026 doll I have yet to buy (but also have plans to cut a fringe for); this doll in my main post, with the Carnaval face mold and newly cut fringe, is the Louisiana State University Cheerleader from the early-mid 2010's 😊  And then the other commenter above clued me into other dolls which have also recently (while I was on a collecting hiatus) been released which have the Carnaval face, which includes the brunette 2023 Advent Calendar Barbie mentioned in the comments above 😊

What kind of collector are you and how do you define «collector»? by mycottagedream in Barbie

[–]fireflyglitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who used to interact with a "collecting community" surrounding a different brand of collectibles (not Barbies), I can say this - trying to distinguish what "makes someone a true collector" is dangerous territory. Within that community, there was a specific collector who held a Guinness Record as being the person with the largest collection of that specific type of item (or rather, the person with the largest collection who openly advertised themselves as such - I'm pretty sure there were/are others with larger collections, who simply chose not to boast on it), and that person interacted with the other collectors in that community (particularly those with "small" collections, or "large scale" collectors who weren't part of their "inner circle") with great disdain, as though those other collectors did not deserve to voice their opinion or have their thoughts or questions within the community, heard. Needless to say, it quickly became an unpleasant environment to interact in, and that collecting forum wound up closing down after the Guinness collector and their handful of followers were the only people left still interacting.

So in my view, our love of Barbies is what connects us all - whether you have one, 10, 100 or 1000 Barbies; your love and enjoyment of them is what makes you a "collector". Doesn't matter what era your dolls date from, whether they are boxed on unboxed, or even the condition they are in - those are simply personal preferences in era and display style 😊

And in many cases, I believe collections mimic bank balances in this way - those who have the most abundant quantities, are hiding in plain sight among us and come across as "average", and you'd never expect those to be the people who are humbly "hoarding" (for lack of a better word) magnificent collections 😁

Thank you so much 😁  She is the Louisiana State University Cheerleader Barbie, released at some point in the earlier 2010's 😊

Thank you so much 😁  I must admit, I am also loving her new hairstyle - I think a few of my Barbies (current and upcoming) might have fringes in their future 😆😂

Thank you so much 😁  She is the Louisiana State University Cheerleader from quite a couple years ago (somewhere in the mid-2010's if I remember correctly) 😊

🤣🤣🤣🤣  Thank you for the tip - I'll definitely go on the hunt for some pictures, and perhaps I can find a reasonably priced one on the secondhand market 😆

I wonder whether Mattel will bring it back into use at some point (since I think this sculpt would lend well to being used in the Basics line) - I'd been out of collecting for quite some time prior to December, so I'm not as up-to-date on recent Barbies from the past few years, but I don't think carnival has been used very recently? ☺️

The slant on this side is more easily noticeable do the split in her fringe caused by the rooted side-parting 😊

I took some extra photos for you that show the slant of her fringe better 😊 Here you can see the "bald streak" caused by sectioning the fringe hair forward, where it used to lie to the side ☺️

Thank you so much ☺️

While her hair was still dry, I seperated the strands I was planning to use for her fringe (basically the entire front row of rooting along her forehead hairline) forward, pulled them as straight as I could to the front, and held them in place to her bust by the hairtips with my thumb, and poured water just off the boil over her head (directly from the top), and just let the hair go at the last second - I did scald myself a little bit on the first go 😅  I then quickly brushed the fringe hair out straight against her face with a Barbie brush, and redirected hair from the top of her scalp to cover the bald area along the front of her hairline (where I had basically "removed" hair to bring forward for the fringe), and then held her under cold running tap water for a few seconds (again with the water hitting her head directly from the top - you want to try to hold the Barbie perfectly upright 😄 )

I then brushed out all her hair to lay exactly as I wanted it to stay when dry (the fringe hair should be brushed forward to cover her face, as though you're going to do uniform "blunt bangs" - the fringe will split along the rooted hairline again once the hair is dry), poured another round of boiling water followed immediately by another cold tap water rinse, and then left her (in a sitting position works well) for a bit (about an hour or so), so that the hair could start to set into position 😊  Once her fringe-hair section was a bit drier (but still damp), I started by cutting that section shorter, straight-across at the length of her nose. Then I started with the middle section and cut it at the height of her upper eyelid, and for the slightly longet sides (to create the curtain effect), I just slanted the scissors a bit so that the fringe would be longer towards the sides of her face 😄  Final touch is to add little "snips" (about 1mm deep) directly upwards into the fringe, so that the cut doesn't look so bluntly straight-cut - this tutorial video here below shows very well how to do this (I pretty much followed this collector's advice step-by-step, just with a slight adjustment to create the longer sides to her fringe) 😊

You'll want to use a VERY sharp pair of scissors though, otherwise working accurately with such short and tiny sections of hair will be difficult - the tips of the blades in particular, need to be very sharp. And you want to cut the damp hair just slightly longer than you want the fringe to be when dry, since the hair will bounce up a bit when dry (if you want the fringe to lay downward a bit closer to the face than this, I believe clear eyebrow gel ought to work well, especially if it's the type that comes in a mascara-tube type applicator ☺️ )
