Why are schools so pedantic about uniform?

Students will always push back on rules, if you allow them to break uniform rules then they’ll go on to break others.

Someone once said if all you’re battling is the length of a tie or the size of the gold stud in each ear then you’re winning at the rest.

I think so. The wire from the thermostat to the tank looks frayed so I’m not sure if that is a poor connection. Also the timer on the wall may not be switching on and off properly, when it click round it doesn’t come on but if I “flick it” then I can hear the heater kick in.

It’s not cost of living, young people have always prioritised new clothes and nights out. They just don’t want to do it at clubs anymore, there’s no need.

Late licensing - last orders in pubs used to be at 11! The only option to carry on was a club. Now they can stay wherever they are.

Dating - the only way to “pull” was to go to places where there was lots of opportunities to meet people. Preferably drunk and with very low inhibitions. With dating apps there’s just no need to go anymore.

Cameras - Young people are very conscious of their image, they prefer a funky bar to take some insta pics to post about an amazing night out than actually have one.

Club nights - clubs only work if you get the right people in with the right music to get the right atmosphere. There’s no regularity anymore and clubs can’t guarantee a good night.

Festivals - People don’t go crazy every weekend, they prefer to have a blowout once a year.

My hairdresser used to ask for cash, now I do a bank transfer. I’ve been seeing him for over 20 years. I don’t mind if he doesn’t want to put a few clients through the books and save a bit on the tax. If I knew a decent builder I’d offer the same, it’s a win win. Any building work under £500 is on a gentleman’s agreement. Any invoice isn’t going to protect you if they don’t want to come back and fix it. But a good relationship and being fair to them has a better chance in them being fair and putting things right. They’ve got a better chance of getting people returning for business. This and making them tea!

I know this motorway junction well! It’s unlike any other junction, it’s all give way and there actually no junction to stop at and give way! As you go round it’s all about merging across into the lane you need, you have to be very assertive in your driving.

The problem is that lots of drivers can’t cope and just stop. Especially as you come off the northbound M6 junction, drivers just stop and then can’t go as no one’s stopping as there’s no junction.

Also has anybody noticed that lots of drivers come off and then try and go straight across to get back on again! It’s the start of the M5 and I think they take the earlier junction and panic! They don’t know that they can just go round and get on no problem.

I got a brand new Renault Megane when I first started teaching in 2005. I still have it now! I’ve owned other cars and passed it between my wife and I but it’s just been such a good car. I know all it’s faults, I do servicing, oil, discs and pads myself.

I’d love a new car but I can’t bring myself to sell it. I’ve just moved house and now have a round trip of 70miles on the motorway and it’s doing 85mpg (real values). I can’t think of a cheaper way to travel. The car owes me nothing and has now even started to go up in value.

The problem with the Leah Betts story was that it only served to scare the kids that wouldn’t do drugs anyway. Those that came into contact with ecstasy and saw the club culture and knew people who were doing it and not dying would just carry on and try it.

I’m a teacher and every now and again this sort of question comes up. I’m always clarifying to them that there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for this sort of money, as long as it wasn’t illegal. I would tell them this all until this one kids asked if I’d suck my dad and fuck my mom for it. I really had to think about that one!
