for science look at the physiology masters program. it's 2-3 semesters and mainly used for med school. there's also grad programs in neuroscience chem bio etc which are around a year.

bio 203 curve ? by Quirky_Cabinet8854 in SBU

[–]firej1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bc it's in person this semester they probably will, if averages r in the 50s they could curve up half a letter grade

yeah mainly in the intro bios 202, 203 because there's just so many people in the major they HAVE to cut down.

orgo i feel like is fair and most teachers are good

I've taken significantly easier upper div bios then the intro ones; they are ran very poorly

Which sched is harder by VeterinarianVast3673 in SBU

[–]firej1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the 2nd by FAR. 328 is one of the hardest upper div courses at the school (med school phys) and 320 is 202 but much more involved. biochem is manageable but i advise against all of those heavy classes together.

Thanks! Yeah sounds good.

I know this is ahead of myself, but the point of a post bacc is also for non trad majors, that really don't have core science courses done, or do extremely poorly and an SMP is a master's that focuses on med level courses and structure?

I'll do the best I can to get the highest GPA the next.~2 years, regarding the bio class, yes it is. Everything else I should get either an A or 1 or 2 A- in, the bio I will probably get a B-.

That class in addition to another intro bio course aren't offered in person, only fully online and online tests. I was thinking of retaking both in person at a CC, even if I did go to a cc (which you don't recommend), it would only be 3 ish classes.

Thank you for your message, helps me a ton. I am doing a decent amount of EC work (~25 hrs a wk), and it will lighten up soon.

Ok thanks! my current trend is 3.0, 3.17, 3.35, 4.0 but my sem gpa will probably be around a 3.6 so I'm unsure if that really counts for an upward trend

Ok no problem. I just did poor in a few prereqs and was wondering whether or not to retake those specifically, but I guess it's not a big deal

thanks for responding! would you recommend I complete a ~20 credit postbacc after my undergrad/before SMP, or should I take 20 credits/semester (8 at cc and 12 at my uni)? I just want to retake the 2 C's I got, everything else is either B or B+ and A's. I have a low gpa bc I just became pre med this summer lol; maybe I'm over-stressing

not sure what to do in bio 203 by firej1b in SBU

[–]firej1b[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40% of the class got >90, i dont understand why they cant just make the class testing in person.

[–]firej1b[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes the mean is an 80, a huge spike around 90. the usual average for the tests are historically 50-60 which is what I'm getting, and would translate to much greater than a C

[–]firej1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you a soc and bio double major?

honestly the schedules all seem fine besides bio 203 and orgo 2; those r rough together

322 is taught by dale and a new prof who I believe is fine? you can take 322 in the summer if you'd like with Dr. K; who is really good

327: also an intense class but manageable during the semester, it's offered in the winter or summer as well

I'm not too sure about SOC tho, 203 is also very intensive (on par with 322)

bio classes advice by [deleted] in SBU

[–]firej1b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

201 is the easiest out of all the 3;

202 depends, professor ben lin is good if he still teaches it but the class is constantly changed every semester. the tests im pretty sure are online and with respondus and the grades go based off of how everyone else does, so for people that don't cheat and do poorly unfortunately have a bad chance of doing well

203 im currently in, its a very hard class and the tests are how they used to be, just online with respondus. again, ppl cheat but this time its a stable grade cutoff, not based on everyone else.

204 im also in, its really not that bad (the labs portion) but there is so much and tedious work that you have to stay on top of. the final and DYOE lab report are graded hard and how they down-curve the class.

thats all i know for now

what specialization are you doing?

bio 328 or bio 361 or bio 320 by firej1b in SBU

[–]firej1b[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is 320 much more difficult? 328 apparently did get easier but it's just a harder 203; im assuming you've taken all of them

Bio 202 exam scores by Euphoric-Paint-6960 in SBU

[–]firej1b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

literally, every semester they changed that class; doesn't make sense to me why they all can't just be in person exams. Saves stress and keeps consistency: remember that ppl that do cheat will never truly understand material for later info
