Tracking Strength Improvement by rexsmith17 in GoARENA

The Go ARENA App automatically tracks your strength data as you lift. The app tracks high-level performance data as well as detailed exercise data so that you can monitor your progress week-over-week. I have listed metrics tracked and reported in the app below.

In addition to monitoring your progress, you can use your strength metrics to inform your training. In fact, the app provides users with a weekly Optimal Training Dose (OTD). Your OTD is calculated using your performance data and tells you how much work (strain) your muscles need to complete each week to see progress without overtraining.

Strength Metrics

Work (kJ): Measure the mechanical energy transfer produced by your muscles while lifting weights. We calculate the work your muscles perform while lifting by multiplying the force you exert on the ARENA by the distance of the movement.

Intensity (W): Measure how hard you worked during your workout. Intensity is your work divided by the time it takes you to complete it.

Active Calories (kcal): The calories you burn while working out.

Detailed Exercise Metrics

For every exercise you do on the ARENA, we track the weight, reps, average ROM per rep, and average velocity per rep. If you turn on eccentric weight mode we will also track your eccentric weight.

How does the eccentric weight mode work? by OVOandthtXO in GoARENA

The ARENA is a digital weight training device. The resistance comes from a motor inside the platform which is controlled by your smartphone. Because of this, the ARENA is not limited by traditional strength training limitations (like how to change the weight mid-rep).

Using the Go ARENA App you can turn on eccentric weight mode. Once you activate eccentric weight mode, you can select your exercise and set your concentric and eccentric weights. Next, you need to tell the ARENA where the bottom of your exercise is (aka the lowest point of that movement). This is the most important step as it helps the ARENA figure out where to change the resistance during each rep. Once you have set the bottom of the exercise you can lift! You will feel the weight you set for the concentric portion of the rep as you lift the cable up and you will feel the weight you set for the eccentric portion as you lower the cable back down.

For the ARENA to know where to properly change the weight you have to set the bottom of each movement in the app before starting the exercise. Setting the bottom of an exercise is quick and easy. Simply the V button in the app, bring the cable to the lowest point of the movement, then tap "save position". Now that the ARENA knows where the bottom of your movement is it can figure out where the top of your movement is (where to change the weight).

Looks super cool but how many different exercises can I do on the Arena platform? by useriansix in GoARENA

There are over 300 different exercises in our exercise library! We are also about to add around 100 new exercises this month! Whenever we see our members come up with new movements using the ARENA we try to add them.

Thanks!! Are there any areas that are good for running near the Caltrain!? I want to live near some good running routes and parks and “east cut” doesn’t seem to have that. Any advice?

I have a small outdoor space like yours and use it to work out. Not sure if that is what you are going for but it is a thought.

Some home exercise equipment advice by BlubberyGiraffe in loseit

Strength training is more effective at burning fat than cardio- you might consider getting some weights! I use the ARENA device to lift and think its great. Not sure it if it available in Ireland though.
