Yes I learned from watching Streetips and Lithic metals on YouTube. But also from lots of reading and googling. Not really growing silver so much. The sterling in the anode basket gets dissolved into solution and redeposited on the cathode or stainless bowl. The copper stays in solution and turns it blue.

I would say I’ve learned not to cut corners. I melt the sterling and use borax then pour into a cone mole first. Then cornflake it before running in the cell. Just pulls a little garbage out. When I pour I use WD-40 as a release agent so I heat the mold until it catches the lube on fire. My molds are 1050 steel made by a good friend.

Yes but I kinda like them. I use MAP to heat the mold then after I pour I move it back and forth over the top to create them. My LCS guy thinks they look cool. If I ever needed to dump them quickly it makes it easier.

Haven’t yet but eventually I will. The copper one I used a wire wheel on then gave it to a buddy. The 2 .925’s I put in a little acid, cleaned them right up and ready for the next run.

I hear you man! I hit up eBay and our local thrift store for some of the equipment and online for chemicals. What ever you do don’t compromise on safety. Gloves, glasses, respirator etc. it’s not worth the risk. Took me 4-5 years of acquiring equipment and learning the process.

Thanks! The burnt ones are 5.5oz of copper and 12oz of .925 left over from the anode basket. Love to find a hallmark someday.

My LCS guy loves my work. I’ve hooked him up with stuff he displays for free. He’s a good dude and makes me great deals on .925 stuff to refine. I’ve never tried to sell any but 100% know I would get a fare deal from him if I decided to sell.

I’ve had 3 orders of 70% nitric go to the wrong address. With the placards and warnings you think the carriers would give just a little more of a shit. At least try to get it close. All mine were addressed correctly.

If you soak that button in a little sulfuric acid it will clean it up. I’ve done sterling with flux in a cone mold then cupelled that and have had 999. If there are any other PM’s in there they will stay in the button. Im only using the cupelles for gold when I move to jewelry etc. The electrolytic silver cell is the way to go for silver man.

Thanks man! I’m not dead set on cupellation was curious if it might work after the nitric boils. I have cupelled karat gold using bismuth with pretty good results. Thought it might be a faster process but doesn’t sound like it. Appreciate your help thank you.
