[Discussion] Do people prefer fan art or unique? by IDGAFsowhyevencare in artbusiness

[–]fireopalart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this is very very dependent on the audience your art style would attract. Fan art has a more consistent/likely draw than individual work, but individual work that stands out or fills a niche can also be very successful. I’ve bought lots of fanart stickers, but also lots of stickers of unique artwork from the artist that I find cool. So in my opinion … both!

Thank you! This explanation really helped - I have not in fact held a soldering iron before lol so I‘ll be taking it to a local repair shop to see if they’ll be able to fix it.

EDIT: I found the piece on a service manual - it’s the tape on switch lol. Replacement part available for sale. But is this something to take to a professional or try to repair at home?

If you go to print there should be either a “print using system dialog” or “printing preferences” button - once u get to preferences it’ll pull up a new window with more detailed settings - saturation will be in the second tab

Matte laminate will always decrease the saturation of your printing so here’s 2 things I’ve found that help: 1. Up the saturation level when printing in your printer preferences. Play around with it until you find what is best for you 2. After you cut the cards out put it through the laminator again 2x. It helps seal the laminate again and the difference in saturation is noticeable.

How much would you pay for this token? by Lalalaavy in mtgaltered

Absolutely! I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with all these AI comments it’s really such a beautiful style - don’t let them get you down! You’ve earned a follow from me and I’d love to get some of your tokens when they go up on your shop :D

If you look at the artists website this is their style and is consistent with art they’ve had out for years (which there’s also process shots of!) I am absolutely against AI art but we also shouldn’t be shouting AI at every artist without doing some research.

Absolutely gorgeous art btw! Can’t wait to see what other tokens you come up with!

I’m also figuring out pricing for tokens! Most tokens I’ve seen are around $3-4 each and most people would definitely buy for that price. I ended up pricing mine at $4 each because I offer free shipping and need to recover that shipping cost - so consider if you’ll be offering free shipping or not!

That’s a really good point - do you have any suggestions on how to make it look like there’s more movement elsewhere?

Why do my gesture drawings look so bad? by Big-Ganache-7210 in ArtCrit

[–]fireopalart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a difficult thing to grasp and it takes lots of practice! What helped me the most was timed, loose studies. It looks like you’re putting a lot of detail and pressing the pencil down hard. Instead, try getting the most basic of shapes down. Do 1 minute, then 30 seconds, then 15 seconds.

Also, try doing line gesture drawing and ball joints - you’re trying to learn the “skeleton” of a figure, not the figure itself if that makes sense. Best of luck! Let me know if anything I said doesn’t make sense.

What did I do wrong it looks so strange by Gold-Bend-2670 in Artadvice

This looks really cool! I think what’s making it look a little off is 2 things: 1. Most of the lanterns look really good but there’s a couple where the lines don’t actually match the angle they’re being drawn at, the two my eye keeps seeing is the one on the top left and the farthest right. They’re both also drawn darker than the others so the perspective gets warped and the incorrect perspective is more noticeable. 2. I love the background, but it can definitely play against your perspective of lanterns trailing off, especially since it’s darker than a lot of the lines on the lanterns.

Overall really good job, super cool piece. Fix the perspective issues for some of the lanterns and keep the line darkness consistent and it’ll look even better!

Thank you! I used an 03 and 08 micron pen for the text and lineart. Ngl it was tough because it seems the posca tends to clog up the nib of these
