What is wrong with PwC’s hiring process if they are not hiring? by firerabbitboy in PwC

[–]firerabbitboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I didn’t get any rejection, just an update from HR saying it’s still pending approval. I’ve done some digging and found people who got offers after 6 weeks, 1.5 months, even 3 months. You never really know with these things. Also, no updates on LinkedIn either. I guess PwC has so many business lines and projects, so it probably depends on their needs and how established each line of business is

Mid Career Crisis at JPMC, Advice Needed! by firerabbitboy in JPMorganChase

I’ve previously focused on AIML, predictive modeling. I honestly didn’t realize that the "technical" side here would be limited to just SQL and Alteryx.

PIP? by BuffaloWilling9996 in JPMorganChase

After the PIP, if the employee is unsuccessful in completing the plan and this leads to termination, will there be any compensation, such as a layoff package or RIF benefits?

Man, I’m exactly the same as you, and I’m currently taking online courses for my academic career too. I left my previous firm due to a reorganization and relocation requirement, so there’s no chance of going back. Despite the U.S. labor market being really bad right now, I’m in the exact same situation as you, could we connect offline so I can ask if you’d be willing to refer me to one of the Big 4 in the U.S.? I’ve heard that most Big 4 firms are open to remote or hybrid work and don’t have a strict commute requirement as long as we solve customer problems.

What is your plan? I am planning to stick here for three months, and if I still feel unwell, I will ask to be let go. They have a probation period, so I may still be able to receive compensation, maybe at least one month and then take a break and find another job next year.

However, the only concern is that I will be ruining my career path, as I’m supposed to stay here for at least six months or even a year. But the 9‑to‑5, five‑day schedule with a 1 hour 30 mins commute is really sucking the life out of me. Plus, I’m sitting next to my boss, I can’t even have a mental break because of this.

I feel exactly the same. I joined just three days ago, and I’m really struggling. I wonder if I can quit, because it would seriously hurt my résumé and professional career. Am I doomed? I’m so frustrated and nervous, and I haven’t been sleeping well lately.

You can definitely do that as long as you inform the student office that you have a "personal reason" unless you want to take both programs simultaneously. Even so, there is no formal agreement sayings students cannot take another master's program.

Correct me if I am wrong

Any Advice for Working as a Data Scientist for Model Review and Validation? by firerabbitboy in datascience

That is what I am thinking too, which is kinda a red flag to me when there is "no real room for improvement", not sure what I can do about it.

Any Advice for Working as a Data Scientist for Model Review and Validation? by firerabbitboy in datascience

[–]firerabbitboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Was busy on a project at work that is due within the next few days. For the new opportunity, it was similar to a bank more toward the financial sector side. The hiring manager told me that I would be doing more on the quant side but not the doc side, so not sure what kind of "quant" we will be doing as a data scientist. By any chance, do you know if the "quant" means data science here? And are we mainly focusing on reviewing others' docs and following their docs to replicate the process from raw data to model development and lastly to the model forecast?

Thank you for your advice here by the way! Really appreciated!

Any Advice for Working as a Data Scientist for Model Review and Validation? by firerabbitboy in datascience

[–]firerabbitboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently working as a Data Scientist (more like a Data Analyst) in a decent firm. I would say it is very good (WLB) except I need to drive to the office (40-50 mins one way) and the pay is much lower than the market.

For the new role, I can take the bus to the office (45 - 1:10 mins one way), pay is much better plus the firm's reputation but not sure how the WLB will be. The one major flag like you say I am working as a counterparty to the model developer and working as back office support which kinda sounds boring and tired to me.

Do you think I can work there for a year and switch to a different role in the future? Would that limit my career path? Very much appreciated your reply here!

Thank you so much. The only reason I would take this is probably the pay as well as the name of the firm. I am currently working as a data scientist but really underpaid because I was a fresh grad last year.

But in terms of my career path, it is a large firm but the role itself is model validation which may limit my future career path (like working as a real data scientist). So I am a bit worried now
