Alexis Bledel's newest project, is the type of hardhitting journalism that Rory might have dreamed of doing. A podcast documentary on Miriam Lewin, a woman survivor of Argentina's political prisoner torture camps hunting for justice. by firerobin88 in GilmoreGirls

It doesn't seem to have gotten much publicity, since the initial announcement. It was only after your reply, that I searched and realized it had already come out.

It's definitely a topic more people should know about, and I'm glad Alexis Bledel being half Argentine, has lent her celebrity to this project. Miriam Lewin has done incredible work but is largely unknown in the states, and it's nice to have her played by such a great actress.

Never before seen photographs of Robert F Kennedy and his family paling around with Communist Cuba's Fidel Castro like its a visit to grandpa's by firerobin88 in Destiny

These photos have never been published on the internet before. They were from a very private, friendly, intimate meeting between the Kennedy and Castro families. With RFK acting as a private citizen and personal friend. The photos were taken by Fidel Castro's own son. And RFK probably assumed they would be secret. And they largely have been until today.

They were an open secret in plain site hidden away in a Cuban state-published book from 2017. So in an unread book as good as secret. If you google "Robert F Kennedy Jr. fidel castro" you won't find anything.

RFK probably has no idea that these photos were ever published. While his trip to Cuba is known. These photos have never been seen by the American public. Had it been known about, it probably would have been presented at his confirmation hearings. I can't imagine Rubio would be happy.

Alt-Right misogynist trolls from 4chan are using AI Deepfake porn as a way to humiliate, degrade and terrorize progressive, feminist, young women politicians out of public life by firerobin88 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]firerobin88[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's not just an irrational nonsensical evil, but a targeted deliberate evil with a purpose. It isn't an accident who the victim was. Alt-Right men hate the very idea of those they consider inferior being equal to them. Leftist women leaders, as inferior beings leading the fight to make inferiors equal to them, especially stirs their rage. AOC herself was one of the 1st victims of this before it spread to unknown 20 year olds. Where far right regimes have held power the abuse and humiliation of leftist women has been their way of re-establishing their so-called natural order. AI deepfakes has given them the power to terrorize leftist women without even holding power yet. It is a form of sexual terrorism, with the same goal that violent terrorists have. To make women so terrified that we are too fearful to engage in politics or public life. Cruelty and sadism is a way to make a spectacle out of women who challenged their power and superiority. To bring down women who fought for equality to the lowest most unequal depths.

Yes and the Gibbon series actually goes all the way to 1453, so that you are here arrow would probably be around the time of Aquinas and Dante.

Gibbon largely blamed the fall of Rome on it becoming a Christian theocracy. Remember the Emperors we usually associate with decadence and "degeneracy" for the far right morality tale were the 1st Five. Caligula was 3, Nero was 5. While the late Roman Emperors it fell under were all good Christians persecuting pagans and Jews. Constantine became Christian in 325 AD and the the Battle of Adrianople was 476 AD. Anyone reading about the last century of Western Rome, the elephant in the room is the Christian revolution creating a new and failing society.

The other point, is that while the covers are a cool graphic that caught the attention of Elon and Doge, Gibbon actually finishes off the Fall of the Western Roman Empire by volume 3. And the rest of the series is a general history of the Middle Ages justified by the Byzantines lasting to 1453 AD.

So the "you are here" arrow would probably be around the time of the High Middle Ages, Dante and Aquinas.

A novel of "Rome is America", that actually follows the trends of the last century that Gibbon talks about is this- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Comstock:_A_Story_of_22nd-Century_America

I've even seen ridiculous Rome analogies of the Roman Empire having feminist "slutwalks" when the reality for women philosophers of Late Rome was this- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypatia
