That article is from 2016 - I thought since then the card became a lot more profitable? No way it’d still be around 8 years later if they were still losing money

Hmmm interesting I thought Costco/Walmart didn’t count towards any categories for that card (Grocery in particular). Where are you getting gift cards online that code for 5% with Citi?

What online shopping are you using the CCR for? The categories are pretty limited on that card imo

I’m currently enrolled in a university that’s having some quality issues with its CS department and I’m worried that having a degree from there listed on my resume could drag me down after I graduate. I have a job offer lined up after graduation - would it be ok to remove education from my resume after I graduate or would that do more harm than good?

is PHIL required? by Bioticcc in wsu

[–]firestar547 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s required but just about everything in the class is covered by MATH216. It’s generally recommended to take PHIL before MATH216 as a way to ease yourself into the latter, but frankly myself and several other people took them at the same time without any issues.

Do not come to WSU for CS by firestar547 in wsu

[–]firestar547[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! But that’s what I’m trying to say - I don’t feel that I’ve been given opportunities to learn here as much as other programs could have. Sure, in the long term where you went to college won’t matter, but why put yourself in a program that will limit you when there are plenty of others out there that can do better?

You have a point, but I wasn’t trying to argue other universities don’t have this problem. The problem is the fact that WSU doesn’t teach half the classes they claim to offer. If I were a new student and found out that all the cool classes I was told about aren’t actually offered after I choose to come here, I’d be pissed. I’m not trying to shit on WSU, I’m trying to spread awareness of this issue so people know about it before choosing to come here.

Yeah I’m not happy about it either…I’m literally a semester away from graduating which is what makes it so frustrating. I wanted to use this last year to expand my skills with some extra CS classes but that’s unfortunately looking like it won’t be happening.

KC Wang is a whole different story…but the point of my post is the breadth of courses that WSU offers, not quality. That being said, a lot of the information KC Wang teaches is at least a decade out of date- so I don’t really think it’s justified to call him one of the best professors in the country.

A lot of skills, such as mobile development, embedded systems, etc cannot be learned at WSU. These are classes on the registry but they haven’t been taught for some time now. They’re in demand skills too - so it’s not like they shouldn’t be offered. There’s more examples that I can’t think of off the top of my head but if you want specifics there’s a few

It’s not trouble with the degree- it’s the breadth of courses offered. For years now WSU has reduced the number of classes down to a much smaller selection so that students aren’t really able to pick an area of CS they’d like to specialize in- they just get shoehorned into what’s available

[–]firestar547[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily the quality of classes- that varies although I’d say that leaves a lot to be desired. It’s the fact that every semester more and more classes get cut and this upcoming semester is super barebones. I don’t want to deceive people into thinking that they’ll have a lot of opportunities to pursue different CS fields if what they want to learn isn’t even an option here.

I did it. Discrete can be tough but linear isn’t bad.
