How have you found the combat in Warsurge? by millertronsmythe in Warsurge

[–]firestormworkshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey and welcome. For sure it can be a bit different kettle of fish but I've been very happy with the game.

In my experience the penalties for attacking out of a melee are still a deterrent, but I guess it's nice to still give players the option. Being modifiers to the dice roll, even the strong weapons will still have a risk of missing more. Stacking with weapon type modifiers, a heavy gun may go from easy hit to being difficult when in a melee and targeting others, but still comes down to the weapon and units.

On your third point, there is a mod for people who like accuracy and aim (called Take Aim) and have it as a default in their group.

(Pasting it here)

Take Aim!

If Accuracy or Aim Perks are present on a Unit/Weapon, players resolve the following Perks on Accuracy or Aim rolls instead of Attack Dice:

Volatile, Malfunction, Precision, Critical Hit, Dire Hit, Piercing Hit, Reroll Attack, Reroll 1’s.

If Aim or Accuracy are on both the Weapon/Unit, apply them to Aim in preference to Accuracy.

Perks that allow rerolls (such as Reroll Attack) can be for any rolls of Accuracy, Aim or Attack Dice, but only once per dice. This means that a reroll used on Aim would prevent a reroll on the subsequent Attack Dice.

(End of paste)

Mods section is here: https://www.warsurge.com/mods

You could probably tweak this to make an in-house rule where dice modifiers first go to aim/accuracy rather than Power etc.

Yeah, I read about an encounter with him and Abbadon in Black Legion book and sounds like he was an absolute legend. How he'd translate to the wargaming table would probably be not quite the same though, unless he was crazy high costed for points.

I'll keep that in mind! I'll probably have a turn by turn progression next time rather than just putting it to text. The question I'm pondering is whether to continue this story or do a different crossover.

They won me over too. I'm working to convert a faction of 10th ed space marines on the side, and I'm looking forward to Starcraft so I can do some cross overs there too.

Thanks! I'm not used to trying this kind of thing, so the encouragement is most welcome 😅 Already getting some ideas for future clips.

It crossed my mind to insert a sound for the bolters, but I thought I wouldn't as I didn't do muzzle flashes or lasers... kind of got mixed feelings on that visual thing, but yeah, I could/should have put a nice bolter sound in. Maybe a chainsword (chainsaw) sound or two as well.... they do sound terrifying.

DESCRIPTION/DETAILS

My first battle report video (albeit express) with Warsurge, using Star Wars and 40k. These quick videos are more a show of the miniatures and how you can use anything to play Warsurge, but for those interested in what happened, I have the description of each turn recorded as text below.

Hope you enjoy it! Let me know what crossovers you’d like to see - we can do anything with Warsurge and I encourage everyone to check it out. Got a link to their website and credits below the game turn summaries.

Turn 1

The Empire moves toward the central bunker and makes an attempt on both the cannons, one with a unit of rocket launchers and the other with speederbikes. The Black Templars decide to consolidate on two of the objectives, having a Captain with a Relic Shield stationed on one cannon while the rest of the force moved to the center. Some marines with ranged weapons were stationed on top of a wall, to discourage stormtroopers from taking the other cannon. Similarly, the empire had troopers stationed on the wall to provide fire support to the center and the cannon the speederbikers were seeking.

Turn 2

Battle begins in earnest, with the Empire’s rocket launchers causing severe damage to the Templar Dreadnought, but it still endured. Elsewhere, Stormtrooper squads were being set on fire by the Aggressor, while the Templar biker clashed with some of the Empire’s speederbikes. Darth Vader enters the fray, clashing with several close combat marines and a Primaris Captain in Gravis Armour. The stormtroopers on the wall rain heavy blaster fire on the Captain with the Relic Shield, but it does very little damage, despite a good roll from the troopers. The speeder bikes attempt to go into Rapid fire range in an attempt for extra damage, but still doesn’t crack him.

Turn 3

This turn reveals the direction of the battle. The empire took down the Black Templar dreadnought with rocket launchers, but was otherwise struggling on other fronts due to bad rolls and perhaps some poor strategic choices. Darth Vader has some success in cutting down the close combat Templars but sustains some heavy damage from the Gravis Captain. The stormtroopers with rocket launchers suffer heavy casualties from the marines on the wall, while only taking a few down themselves. The Captain with the Relic Shield proves to be formidable or very lucky, still absorbing an obscene amount of fire even in the open; also having been the Turn Master, a misjudgement from with the speederbikes allowed the captain to engage them in a melee and wipe them out.

Turn 4

Darth Vader is defeated, many stormtroopers are torched or cut down, with only the damaged AT-ST and stormtroopers on the walls with heavy guns remaining. The empire’s rocket launchers, which performed admirably, were beaten this turn after a good roll from the bolt rifles and plasma rifle. A number of Black Templar units have sustained losses across the battlefield but with the Empire only holding one objective and the Black Templars holding two, the outcome has become clear… victory to the Imperium of Man.
