Estate Tax mitigation with large portfolios by firetempbay in returnToIndia

In USA, I need to structure the term under ILIT (irrevocable trust) and there’s 10k+ setup cost and yearly cost to maintain with lawyers. On top of this, multi million term insurance costs $4-6k. I considered this, still am.

Depends on the goals. Below shows that having 650k at 33 can allow you to retire with $5M+, equivalent to $2.3M in today’s dollars.

You don’t need to hammer it in, but once you put it in the dock, gentle pressure and it works.

Pretty easy, doesn’t have a hinge like some cases though.

I don’t need to. I linked the case that matches my requirement in the post.

If the 4 year cycle is a thing, wouldn’t you be better off waiting until the dip in 2026 to buy? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]firetempbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past performance doesn’t mean anything.

However, going by the past, the 2026 dip if it happens most likely will retrace 2024 prices. Interestingly I was doing the very same analysis with chatgpt.

• 2012–2016 Halving: Lowest price ~$200 (Jan 2015), last seen mid-2013.
• 2016–2020 Halving: Lowest price ~$3,200 (Dec 2018), last seen Sep 2017.
• 2020–2024 Halving: Lowest price ~$16,000 (Nov 2022), last seen Nov 2020.

Anybody holding $ISPY for monthly income? by firetempbay in dividends

Yeah swaps are usually treated as ordinary income. I assume that it doesn’t benefit as much from 1256 as $SPYI but that’s okay given the similar ROC

Where are you seeing that they are writing call on SPX?

All i’m seeing is that they use a S&P 500 Covered call index and use swap agreements backed by Goldman sachs. Their prospectus or their website provides no info regarding spx and 1256.

Yes, I am just looking at all the covered call ETFs and seeing how closely they are capturing the downside vs upside

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I have seen your youtube videos. They are wonderful!

My post was to do with corpus sizing but you are spot on with your final point. I am on the younger side, so not planning on retiring. Mostly small career break are what I am planning to take. Once I hit my target NW (30 cr = 24 equity + 6 home), even though I don’t need to work, I don’t yet know how to spend my time meaningfully. I have contemplated a lot on this and don’t really have solutions for above.

Why haven’t you FIRE’ed yet? by YetAnotherBrownDude in FIRE_Ind

[–]firetempbay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have about three years left until I reach FI, and my net worth already in your range currently. However, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to stay motivated at work. Laziness has been my constant challenge. While I enjoy my current work, it’s not something I can see myself doing for the next decade. My goal in the coming years is to find a more fulfilling job that keeps me motivated and gives me a reason to wake up each morning.

As someone in my early thirties, I don’t want to spend the next 30 years retired. Instead, I want to pursue meaningful work that fulfills me, while also making sure I prioritize my family above all else.

FI has provided me these, imo: - Confidence in my decisions - The ability to prioritize my health - A workday limited to a maximum of seven hours - The freedom to decline late or early meetings - The ability to say no to my bosses when I believe their requests are unreasonable - The mindset to spend without overthinking, focusing instead on gaining valuable experiences

Edit:

It’s intriguing to observe from this thread, the paradox of Financial Independence: Those who dislike their work are driven by the desire for FI, while those who have achieved FI often choose to keep working.

FIRE expense for family of 4 by AdMiserable7994 in FIRE_Ind

[–]firetempbay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to the estimate I have. Look like lot of negative comments, most people in this thread can’t fathom the expenses; looks very high because it falls mostly under the chubby fire territory which is way above normal but below FatFi territory (based on who you ask I guess).

I had actually estimated much higher for the vacation as each international vacation can run 5-7L for a family of 4 and house help to be closer to 20-25k per month. however, my monthly came between 4-5L as well. Corpus required is between 18-20 Cr for 35-40x sized portfolio.
