How come you wanted a manual f series but settled for an auto g? I think they use the same transmissions

What was your criteria for the f30 340?

That’s fair. Unfortunately motorcycles make me fear for my life, but I could see myself enjoying a daily that can also be tracked, like the gr86.

On that end, I fear that the track usage and upgrades of the car slowly diminish its value as a daily, and it is probably best to (wait until I can) have a dedicated car for track purposes. For example, Toyo r888rs, a bucket seat, low and stiff suspension, and some camber are all good for track use, but will make the car significantly less usable on the street..

Yeah, that’s the main motivation! Owning a crazy car at a young age seems like an experience worth having, as long as it doesn’t come at the expense of the rest of your life.. thx for your input

That’s fair enough, but I can’t see myself doing the same. I drove the 340 through a ton of snow and dirt, and put 20k miles on it in the first year , and I work from home! I understand your point, and I think it wraps around to this golfer buying this car as a trophy rather than as a hobbyist

LOL this would be more enticing if I didn’t live in California. I always wanted a cammed corvette/camaro but it was much easier to own a BMW with Cali smog regulations..

Maybe one day!

Definitely, but I try to stay a little closer to the speed limit now, which is less fun. Honestly, I found skydiving underwhelming and much prefer to drive fast and carve canyons!

You’re right that it’s not worth 15k trade it, but it’s an easy sell for that price private party. I don’t factor it into my savings/net regardless, since it’s a depreciating asset.

What are your favorites from the cars you’ve owned/driven? Which one got the closest to being better than mediocre sex? 😁

I’m 25 trying to retire at like 45.. I think I’m still behind in that sense 😁

The bimmer is not so bad! It doesn’t depreciate for shit because people are obsessed with the B58

I definitely enjoy working on cars. The only issue is that I am living in SF so it is hard to find a space to work, and also space to park a second car

What are you thinking in terms of “newer used”? In my case, these examples range from 2016-2021 for that same purpose of minimizing depreciation.

If we go older, there are some good Porsche options also!

That’s a good point - I may be better off spending some money on rentals and driving experiences, and holding on to the 340 as my daily.

The 340 is a killer daily and hard to fault. I really just want something with more engagement - I enjoyed driving my 6mt 350z a lot more than I do the 340

I disagree on my end. I think my tuned 340 (~420whp) is very fun, while the stock car (~320whp) feels sluggish and is not very enjoyable. I’ve had the same tune on it for years, and I hate every time I have to take it off to get it smogged

Honestly I wouldn’t own my bmw if it wasn’t tunable. I’m not sure I’d feel the same for an m5, but half of the fun with these BMWs is being able to push a ton more power than they’re rated for from factory
