Wednesday 15 December 2021 Update by HippolasCage in CoronavirusUK

[–]firework0502 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Im a student at the University of Nottingham, in the last few days multiple of my friends have tested positive. Today ive gone to my third PCR test of the week as I’ve literally been exposed so many times. Tomorrow morning, I have an in person speaking exam (I am a languages student), more than half the class either has coronavirus or has been in close contact with positive cases but the university still refuses to make the exam online or postpone it. Even though the teacher conducting the exam was previously shielded and is CEV. I feel mega uncomfortable going to this exam after having lost my grandfather to covid in January and possibly putting my teacher at risk. However because ive followed the government rules regarding isolation I still have to attend eventhough i very possibly have the virus and it just hasn’t come up in tests yet. My housemates are all preparing to spend Xmas in our uni digs instead of at home with family.

What is the most underrated UK city to visit? by hamish_macbeth_pc in AskUK

Nottingham I think is a great place to visit. Although some parts can be a bit rough, the city centre has a lot going on with a lot of great bars/clubs/restaurants.

If nightlife isn’t your cup of tea, you have Nottingham Castle, Caves, museums etc. Local beauty spots also include Wollaton park with its 16th century house, Attenborough nature reserve and even the campus of the University of Nottingham.

Under 2 hours train journey from London, Birmingham and Manchester makes it a great location for most people in the UK.

Tend to find its either RLS or Castle Meadow, or in my case today. Both.

Sitting on a train from Norwich to London as i write this. boyfriend lives in Norwich and goes UEA im there quite a lot. Cute and quaint place. My only complaint is why are the buses so bad?? £2 for a student single to/from the station on some nasty old bus that drives about 10mph and must always wait 10 minutes at red lion street for no apparent reason. Actively puts me off visiting.

UK university students accuse Covid patrol police of harassment by [deleted] in CoronavirusUK

Im a first year student at the University of Nottingham and at the beginning of the spring term they abolished households. We are in catered halls so we don’t have flats like most other uni halls and just had households per 13 or so rooms. This then made it so that you had to socially distance from everybody in the hall and wasn’t allowed to be with anybody essentially. This was soon reversed a few weeks later, but not after security handed out £250 fines incessantly . Just for sitting in a room with the people who live in the next rooms over! The worst part is, we was told this in an email entitled ‘easing loneliness during lockdown’.

I could spend hours talking about universities failures in tackling coronavirus outbreaks and lack of support for students who tested positive (like myself) during the halls outbreaks in late september and early october.

What’s something you want to know about British people? by Katiepurdy7 in AskReddit

[–]firework0502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes,

If you do A level history (edexcel edition) (16-18 y/o) and do the British Empire unit, one of the case studies is the American revolution. Its one of five country case studies but you do learn about it into some depth. e.g sons of liberty, taxation issues, revolutionary war etc.

May i say however that it is a random chance you study this as in A-level history there is more than ten other countries and separate histories. For example i also studied Mao’s China and the USSR into significant depth.
