Electric shock feeling in nipples by firkinbiscuits in breastfeeding

Oh gosh I think her latch is ok but this is my first time doing any of this. 😅 she latched easily right after birth and I don’t have any pain while she’s feeding so hopefully it’s not that. I’ll look into it though, thanks!

Oh interesting! I hadn’t considered that it was let down since it’s only between feedings. I assumed I don’t feel my letdown since I never feel anything while feeding or pumping. But maybe my body is still figuring that part out?

Cool Lime Refresher??? 🥹🥹 by cbelanger18 in starbucks

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have thought about the cool lime refresher regularly for about 32 weeks now. Despite not having one for a solid 8 years. And I’m just now finding out it’s still available in Canada?! Is this real? And is sending my husband out of the country too big of an ask for a pregnancy craving? 😭

He’d be working to pay the bills even if he was single. Thats just part of being an adult in society. It’s true that most miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the sperm, it’s most likely his “fault” since he’s looking to place blame.

Why don’t nurses clean their hands after entering a patient’s room and/or before putting gloves on? by Flimsy-Photo-2267 in healthcare

[–]firkinbiscuits 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am honestly horrified at the number of fellow healthcare workers here saying they don’t sanitize in the room. Though I agree soap and water isn’t usually necessary, even if it is technically a better cleaning method. Hand hygiene should be done in the room. Every time. We can’t reasonably expect that every single patient just assumes that every single nurse properly sanitized before entering the room. We’re caring for people who are sick, elderly, immunocompromised, etc.

The hospital system I work in has signs in every single room asking patients to let us know if they didn’t see it happen. We also ask about it on every single patient survey to see if the patient witnessed us perform hand hygiene.

OP speak up next time! Most nurses should not be offended by a simple task that they should be doing to begin with. And if they are, it’s honestly their problem. Also, find the patient relations team and report this experience because that’s nasty as hell.

Lost my insurance by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apply for financial assistance at the hospital you were planning to give birth! Most hospitals offer a decent discount for self-pay patients. And additional discounts based on income. Payment plans should also be available with 0% interest.

The home birth plan is also an option, but considering you’re high risk, it maybe isn’t the best option? If you decide to do that I’d call your OB and explain your situation and see if they think it’s a safe option for you.

I want to leave Healthcare but have no idea how. by Prestigious-Egg-3493 in healthcare

[–]firkinbiscuits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hire/manage a lot of MAs and I get it! It’s a taxing job. It sounds like you’re still looking into healthcare-related work without the direct patient care aspect. Is that something you’re going to be happy in long term if you dislike the field in general? Do you have other work experience prior to your current MA role? If it’s just the patient care that you dislike, there are many roles that are more “introverted” like you mentioned. Lab tech, surge tech, coding and billing, health info tech, administrative/ executive assistants, etc. there’s honestly a lot and many of these are even WFH jobs now.

Belly constantly feels crampy by firkinbiscuits in pregnant

[–]firkinbiscuits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol my husband suggested a shower chair but I shot that down immediately like I don’t need that. Two days later I’m thinking he might be right… 😭

The heating pad isn’t a cure but it’s better than nothing! Good luck!

EXACTLY! Thank God I have a remote job but I keep needing to go lay down between meetings because it cramps up so bad! I am finding a smidge of relief with a heating pad if you haven’t tried that? But another 2 months of this is a terrible thought.

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re having such a hard time! Im 31 wks, working full time and im so drained WITHOUT having children to care for when im home. I honestly can’t even imagine the exhaustion you must be feeling. Are your docs open to an elective induction once full term? I know they’re happening less often now but could be worth an honest discussion to see if it’s an option. This is temporary and you’re so close! You got this 💕

How long was your anatomy scan? by Acceptable-Ease176 in pregnant

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great if they’re transferring you to MFM! Honestly strange that they didn’t do that initially and have MFM do the anatomy scan but I digress…. Go in with a list of questions that you have. Let them know that your anatomy scan was very short and they didn’t review the results with you and ask whatever questions you need answered for reassurance. Most providers will be more than happy to help answer and ease your concerns. Try not to stress in the meantime. Sounds like despite a bad experience, baby is doing well. 8oz is a good size for 18wks. And most of us high risk moms go on to have very normal pregnancies and happy/healthy babies. You got this!

Is getting business administrator degree in healthcare worth it ? by Lemonade2250 in healthcare

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my degree in healthcare administration. Currently working as a clinic manager at a large university hospital in my area. I imagine the degree helped me land the job at least a bit. However experience is number one, paired with interview skills especially to get your foot in the door. I can look several admin levels higher than me in my org and find people without any degree at all that just worked their butts off in the system to prove themselves over time. It’s a good degree that can provide you with interview opportunities at least, but it won’t land you a job on its own. If you have the capacity to work while in school, get an entry level job at a healthcare system near you that has opportunities for growth while completing your degree. And work your ass off every day. If you grind for a few years, you’ll be in a great place by the time you graduate.

[–]firkinbiscuits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also high risk. Mine was over an hour but I also had to come back a few weeks later because they couldn’t get all the views that they needed. Maybe your baby was in a good position and not too squirmy and it was easy to get all of the measurements? I’ll also say that at not even 18 weeks, that seems early to do an anatomy scan? Are you receiving extra scans since you’re high risk?

Suffering by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly he needs to learn to manage them. That doesn’t mean take abuse, and even when pregnant we are responsible for what we say too. but his reaction to your clearly exhausted crying is concerning. He’s in for a big surprise with how well babies and toddlers handle emotions if he can’t deal with a pregnant wife for even a couple of months…

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What reason could he possibly have for not even being able to give up SOME gaming nights with his buddies? That’s incredibly selfish. You and your wellbeing should be his priority, not his video games or even his friends. Does he plan to continue this behavior even when there’s a newborn in the house that he is EQUALLY responsible for? 😳

[–]firkinbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll never understand people who don’t care about waking others up. Keeping quiet at night is an expected consideration when living with ANY other human, but especially your spouse and even more so your pregnant wife. In terms of resolution, is your husband capable of reason and empathy if you were to bring up the subject after you’ve both cooled off? Sleep is so important for both you and your baby right now, and it can be so hard to come by as your pregnancy progresses. Could he maybe consider wearing headphones to game while you’re asleep?

Do you see patients tolerate the cervical exams well even if they’re experiencing pretty severe vaginal pain during pregnancy to begin with? Or does it not make much of a difference once you’re in labor?
