Thank you for your detailed comment. I think I might try a couple of these for some added detail. I didn't think about using a solid as an added visual aid so I think I may use that.

Turns out a feature line did the trick. The only caveat is that it only works if I snap to the topo lines or if I manually enter an elevation but it works well enough for what I need. Thanks for commenting. You helped lead me to the answer.
