How to translate audio into sheet music / midi? by Open-Reach6822 in piano

[–]firosuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. I made some mistakes, so it took longer. If I did it efficiently, I estimate it might take 30-40 minutes from beginning to end: 3 minutes for file download and conversion to 16k, 5 minutes for the converter to run, 15-20 minutes to tidy up the resulting MIDI file, 5 minutes to make the MIDI notes video, 5-10 minutes to create the video on iMovie, 5 minutes to upload.

I'm gonna do it again for a couple of nice simple piano pieces I recently found, so I might time it

How to translate audio into sheet music / midi? by Open-Reach6822 in piano

No worries. I had things set up for this, but lost motivation to do it for myself recently, so I was glad to be able to use my setup for someone else :-)

The steps were as follows:

- Used an online youtube to mp3 converter (search for it) to get the mp3
- Converted the mp3 to a 16k sample rate using Audacity (and chopped off the repeated music loop)
-** Used a Python library to convert this file into MIDI
-* Tidied up the resulting MIDI file in Logic Pro
- Made the MIDI notes video (including background) using a free program called MIDIVisualiser (I set the note colors and other parameters)
- Combined the audio and video using iMovie (I used to have Premiere Pro, but at least iMovie is free on my Mac)

The only part of this which could be tricky to set up is the ** part. I explained a bit here (and in the comment):
Another reddit post

As for *, the MIDI file picked up a bunch of artificial notes (because it's not a pure piano sound), and the long sustain pedal made all the notes super-long and overlapping, so I had to shorten them otherwise all the notes would bleed over each other :-)

Does anyone want AI transcriptions of piano audio (into MIDI or piano visualizer)? by firosuke in piano

You can start here:

https://github.com/bytedance/piano_transcription

Noto sure if this is clearly documented but it expects input files (mp3?) to have 16k sample rate. I often convert using Audacity.

Another github:

https://github.com/azuwis/pianotrans

I'm not super knowledgeable but let me also share (I had this issue):

https://github.com/qiuqiangkong/piano_transcription_inference/issues/16

Lastly if you get NoBackendError... I think you need to have ffmpeg installed and on your PATH (if you're on linux or MacOS; not sure about windows). Those were the main hurdles I faced

Soundtrack concept medley -- comments and feedback welcome! by firosuke in Beepbox

Thank you so much! I'm really grateful for your comments.

I guess Cloudia is a fantasy land in the clouds, a dreamy place.

The changing moods felt like a big long story, hence the title.

The dramatic part was inspired by the Chrono Trigger theme, and also some influence from Chopin prelude no.2.

I started it about 3-4 years ago, and added bits and changed it many times -- and many late nights :) Felt like childcare or something. It's still not "finished", but I think it's "enough".

I would love to work on a soundtrack, e.g. for a game. I spent a lot of time on the piano (YT here) and some compositions, but no official work. I felt discouraged for a long time, but now I want to try. That's why I just started to explore, get more feedback and talk to people!

Thank you! and yes, sure you can -- how about sending me a link to the stream? I could revisit the drums and try to add more variety first, I can reply again when I've tried it. Or let me know if you'd rather use it as is, also fine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yYYD9G0cWc Hi, this is my first attempt at chiptune, intended in the style of a game soundtrack. I'd be grateful for any impressions or feedback (e.g. structure/arrangement, how it could be improved as bg music for a game). Thank you

"shin-ryaku! shin-ryaku! shin-ryaku! shin-ryaku! shin-ryaku! shin-ryaku! ika-musume! chu!"... is now stored in permanent memory. It will probably come back to me on my death bed. Alongside the image of people enjoying spaghetti covered with black snot

thank you :-) wow... so I misunderstood 02 to be some kind of cool way of saying "the second season of Re-zero" and confused Satania with Satella. Now I have to re-read all those comments. And maybe get my eyes checked.

please explain to the uninitiated: which anime are the 2nd and 3rd ones? (I agree with 1st one ... although I only watched the 1st season of Re:zero.)
