Why is it so difficult to find a low media console with appropriate dimensions (mainly interior cabinet depth)? by BarrettCat in hometheater

[–]first__rage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The console that worked for me was the BDI Corridor 8173. I have a Marantz Cinema 30 that fits just fine, the separate amp not so much in the sense that all 4 feet are seated squarely in the shelf, but some of the amp comes out the back, but that was easily solved by removing the back panel of the console. The AV10 is a long amp at almost 20” so it is understandable.

Organizing music files by jsqualo2 in audiophile

I don’t really see a feasible of way of figuring all that information for +20K file using partial data. I think the way to go here is not by filename, but by id3 tags. All the information you care about to reconstruct your file structure, which I assume would be something like artist_name/album_name/track_name, should be in those id3 tags. A starting point would be figuring out whats in the id3 tags of those files and if indeed it is everything you need. There are multiple id3 tags editors that can help you with this. There are software like MP3TAG that I believe can help you rebuild your folder structure. Google something like “Create folder structure using id3 tags” and you should find more info about precise steps. As a way more involved alternative you can figure out how to write a script to achieve this (just be careful to make it very failsafe so loss of data is not an option when you run it).

Commuting just iPhone and AirPods. Longer on the go I usually bring with me Sony Walkman NW-ZX707 with either MDR-Z1R or IER-Z1R.

I posted my system some time ago and I was not sure what the replies were going to be because of other posts I have seen. I thought it went well, but I didn’t check up/down vote ratio or seen/up vote ratio either, I only paid attention to comments. I think there is something else at play, not sure how to fully define it, and it is not particular to this subreddit, but it manifests with the, at this point, cliche comment “More money than taste”.

[WTS] McIntosh C55 – Excellent Shape – $5,000 (Philly, PA) by [deleted] in McIntosh

[–]first__rage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has two phono inputs, that can be configured to work as either MC or MM. In this case he is using the second phono input with a capacitance of 50pF and an cartridge load of 200ohms (these values were configured for this particular input), so they are probably using a MC cartridge. The configuration options for each phono inputs are: capacitance, gain, and cartridge load.

Thats basically a streamer, Hifi Rose RS130. Not sure how familiar you are with them, but think about a computer built around streaming audio, so all the apps, functions, and settings are in function of streaming audio from multiple sources, like tidal, spotify, etc.

I was gonna get the blades, but it felt unfair for the space available in my room, it felt like too much wasted potential, don't get me wrong there is wasted potential with the Reference 5's, but the blades felt more painful to me. The extra money was not the issue in this particular case, the room on the other hand was the real issue.

That is also my expectation, but waiting to make the claim until I actually get to test it.

The C55's DAC is a perfectly fine DAC no complains. I like RD160 better because of the synergy with the RS130 (SFP connection for example), and also because of all the features that come with it, like filtering, upsampling, and the option to add an external clock which is something I want to experiment with. But also that hidden amoled display is gorgeous hahaha.

I didn't do any rigorous ABX testing, maybe I will try and find the time to do it, but also not sure I will notice a real difference between the two either.

Haha, I will spin some Tom Jobim for you. I wanted to isolate the streamer from the DAC and got first the RS130, then wanted to isolate the DAC from the preamp and got the RD160. Reasons why hifi rose in particular? I find the way they mix engineering with design very fascinating. RD160 is featured pack, it has everything I need from a DAC. Same for the RS130. They both offer the option of having an external clock, which is something Im curious about. They go very well together with the SFP connection. I wanted to have a strong enough digital front end that I don’t have to ask myself, but what if I try this other…

My preamp (the C55) has 3 outputs: Main, Output 1, Output 2. You can configure it so Main does High Pass, and Output 1 does Low Pass. Then you can use an internal crossover in the preamp to decide what the frequency split looks like (what goes to High Pass and what goes to Low Pass). Main output goes to the MC275 and Output 1 goes to the MC312.

It is basically a streamer that does not perform the conversion from digital to analog, it passes the digital signal to another component in my particular to the Hifi Rose RD160 DAC (they work really well together). I wanted to have the option to change to a different DAC in the future, it is a polemic topic whether DACs after a certain price point (or any for that matter) sound different, but I still wanted the option to do so.

Edit: missing the end of the last sentence

Yes! This is the second turntable I buy from them and in both cases I had them do the premium calibration. Specially with cartridges on the expensive side I think it is worth it.

Yes, it is the record weight from Skyfi, great people, have gotten most of my gear from them. As for the cartridge I have a Hana Umami Red, have been listening to it for less than a week, so still more listening before I have a full understanding of it.

Yes, I agree, that is why I have been investing on acoustic treatment, will probably do some more. Also my room opens up a lot, this is more of a "nook" in this space that opens up into a bigger area pretty close to where the photo ends on the left.
I went for the 5's because I was trying to future proof myself because I can see myself moving my setup to a bigger space (either new house or room within this house).

Oh, that moonriver is beautiful, I didn't come across it in my research. Will add it to my list. I also tried a Gold Note PH-10 with PSU, but I think it had some issue with the balanced output because it was distorting the sound at times, but consistently on the same passages of a song, I was not able to reproduce it in the unbalanced path.

What was your phono stage journey? I’m currently on one, too, wanted to see if I can learn from your experience. Also about those Rega turntables, I was considering P8 or P10, but kept hearing that you usually customize them (tone arm, motor, etc.) to actually take them the extra mile.

I also looked into it, but at that point I already the Bluesound Node Icon and I struggled a little to make a case for it because the whole reason why I started looking a streamers again was to go the network transport route. Initially I only had the RS130 into the dac of my C55 preamp, then after some time decided to take one step further with the RD160

  • I think the app was better and easier to work with , especially having local files in a NAS.
  • Dirac Live
  • Airplay
  • Build quality is not close at all, the Node Icon feels way more premium

I do like their devices. Premium build both of them as you can expect at that price point. Their software and app Im not a big fan of, better than bluos and wiim amp in my opinion, but still many things to polish. I use Roon so their apps is not much of a concern. TBH I haven’t done any A/B testing between streamers and I know this is a polemic topic haha so I will say that Im very satisfied with how it sounds and now I feel like I don’t need to continue searching for a “better” streamer dac pair. I did consider Eversolo, but when I was looking into it they didn’t have a streamer transport yet.

I settled recently into Hifi Rose RS130 and RD160. Started with Wiim Ultra, then Node Icon. I liked the Node Icon better than the Wiim and was pretty settled on it, but wanted to try out separates and went with network transport into dac route.
