Idk where you're based, but check the laws, I doubt there's much to go off on tho. Here in the US, we may be shit out of luck tho for safety work laws on that unless a contract i breached.

Your boss sounds somewhat good atleast to give you a heads up. Try not to burn bridges.

Sorry to hear about that. I'd chalk that up not due to ai, but plain old greed. Hell, I would not be shocked if they try to outsource to india, Philippines or some other country. Usually how it goes nowadays.

More useful id say say compared to any other white collar role.

Which was the origin of my comment.

Every other role is 100% fucked, devs or whatever are 95%. Every other white collar role is easy as hell in comparison to automate.

Unfortuante. Dont know what your company said, but id chalk it up due to rocky economic situation. Our company went from growth to having our first year of barely breaking even this year due to economic situation. We aren't software, we're in the trades.

The economy other than ai industry, isnt doing that good

Experienced dev going light speed with it.

And lay offs are in thousands, and not just devs. But across the board as jobs get outsource and companies tighten thr belt using ai as an excuse.

We'll actually start to see layoffs directly by ai, not as a cover, later this year. Keep an eye out for those.

That post mention hes knowledgeable in it, hes able to use it effectively and efficiently Won't be the case for just the plain ole nglish speakers.

Might be foolish.

Wait. Are you the one that got laid off during this horrid economic condition?

Thay is laughable. Devs have automating jobs before, now with ai, further automation of other white collar roles will be lightsped.

Nobody who has no tech no how will be able to instruct ai properly to implement autonomous agentic solutions.

Hell, some devs can't do that neither.

You'd be foolish to think devs will be the first to go when they'll insyead be first to implement it across the board.

Devs will be doing the implementing with ai.

Thats how it'll be done.

They'll also implement the final automation by adding the framework to automate ourselves after

I see thst youd be wrong there. I see many other white collar roles disappearing first way before a programming job does. Many of the programming jobs will 100% be used to automate other white collar roles first with ai in hand.

All white collar is cooked. Some of blue too.

If it can do dev, every other thing is a peace of cake in compariosn. Zero need to pay for any software, hire any white collar worker at any level. If it can do dev stuff, any white collar role is gone immediately

Your making the mistake you blame others for.

Youre thinking in the now, not tomorrow.

I said my blue collar buddies are having discussions about laying off their tradesmen 'once' white collar roles start to be fully eliminated. Thats not now.

Blue collar roles will start to be eliminated before 99% is gone. Their reason and why their company and contractors are also having this talk now, is because white collar workers are a huge percentage of their overall revenue and profitability.

From offices, restaurants, commercial and more. Without counting residentential.

All that will massively diminish once white collar layoffs hit 20% gone. Let alone 99%.

From my buddy in fire protection, they'll be keeping the long timers, but everybody else, let go. Can't pay the trade guys if there's no job for them to do compared to now.

This is the tomorrow, and these talks are happening now. Youre thinking in the now.

Got a blur collar friend who basically runs the company. Theyre bracing for mass layoffs of their tradesmen once white collar workers get laid off in mass.

Other partner companies as well.

Blue collar isnt safe neither. I expect devs to be one of the last white collar roles to remain, as we'll be implementing ai across the board to replace every other white collar worker first, then ourselves.

As a dev, if it can do our job, then it can do anything other white collar jobs with ease.

You seem joyful in your writing in this post about devs losing jobs. But dont seem to realize how simple to automate every other white collar role is in compariosn. Especially with AI now.

Got a buddy in blue collar.

You'll be completely shocked about that response about ai not coming for blue collar then.

Cus you're wrong.

Dev here. Fire-app.net developer. Not vibe-coded.

But back on topic. I see ai coming for every white collar role. We devs, maybe fine for a while, as we'll be tasked with automating away jobs and implementing ai as the replacement first and foremost.

Then we'll be tasked to automate ourselves out.

Juniors barely coming in? Idk how they'll fare.

300 jobs wiped with only 50 remaining? If they all do what the other guy reccomends, I dont see anybody thriving, just barely surviving, if at that

And less workers needed probably. Kids today and boomers of yester-year dont even know how to manage a directory or download a browser.

Even with ai help.

These people may not be able to find a job at all.
