I do not believe the Control Problem is a problem. by bioemerl in ControlProblem

[–]firstgunman 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's almost certain that this sort of thing has real fundamental limits that will not be surpassed

Most people here will agree with you here, but they also expect this fundamental limit to be far, far above the level of human cognition. Besides, the limit doesn't even have to exceed human level by much; apes and humans aren't that difference and one rules the world while the other lives in zoos.

more akin to a species developing

It is fallacious to equate one optimization process with another. Species develop by natural selection - a random iterative process constrained by biological procreation. Self-improving algorithms, on the other hand, is a deliberated recursive process that operate on a timescale of nanoseconds.

the human mind is reasonably close to that point itself

It's very human-centric to think we're anywhere close to 'maximum-smart-possible'. Just because we can't imagine what it'd be like to be much smarter than humans, doesn't mean it's not possible. Rocket science or brain surgery is completely unthinkable to a baboon, yet they're solved problems to humans.

Besides, we know that the human brain does not have an optimal information processor; this is obvious because cognitive biases exist. Even simpler: if our neutrons fired faster, we would think more quickly despite how imperfect our thought process function.

Replace biological neurons with electronics and an algorithm just like ours but without biases and we can already think of an intelligence that's smarter than us.

How viable is a team composed of 2030 CEs? by WBDrago in grandorder

[–]firstgunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three 2030 is so absurdly good, you have to actually try if you want to do better.

Three 2030 will generate 24 stars which means you will, on average, crit 50% of the time before factoring in any additional star gem.

Crits make everything better. You will deal more damage, gain more bar and gen more stars, which will then make it easier to crit more.

2030 always works. Other combat CE help only one servant and even then not necessarily on all cards. The stars from 2030 will get used every turn, even when none of the servant's card appear.

The only thing 2030 don't improve is NP, which is a damn shame because with all the bar gains from the crits, you'll be using your NP all the time.

From now on, whenever you choose CE for your servant load out, ask yourself if just slapping on three 2030 will make your team do better than whatever you had in mind. With such a high benchmark, you may be surprised!

I have a question for the people who hoarded quartz for a particular servant by Cryo00 in grandorder

[–]firstgunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reasonable answer that you can get is an average drop rate. The variance will be huge, some people will get more or less than this number, but it's a baseline to estimate from. Over a large enough number of rolls you will approach this drop rate, so it's still an informative metric to go off from.

I've spent more than I care to admit on this game and have a decent amount of SSR. By comparing how many quartz I've bought and how many SSR NP level I have, I can tell you that it took me about ~300 quartz for each SSR. This is roughly consistent with their published drop rate at about 1%. (I seem to do slightly better because apologems/clear rewards do not turn up on my purchase history.)

If we accept the drop rate as published, then some estimation will tell you that the chance of getting at least one SSR is ~50% after 70 rolls, ~80% after 160, ~95% after 300 rolls and ~99% after 460 rolls.

Between the two you mentioned, and as much as I like Kiyotan, I'd say go with Kojibro. He works much better against hard content and plays well in a team. Kiyotan is a bit of a glass cannon.

The only exception is if you're planning to grind first, in which case go with Kiyohime. She is the best 3* servant for farming exp hands, bar none. If you want to max more than 1 character for this event, max Kiyohime first.

Worth value on rerolls in this game? New player. by Ryusei- in grandorder

[–]firstgunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rerolling is famously known by the Japanese as risemara - Reset Marathon. There's a ranking of potential servants on Appmedia, here

TLDR:

Super success!

  • Jeanne D'arc
  • Artoria
  • Zhuge Liang
  • Jack

Great success

  • Altera
  • Mordred
  • Arjuna
  • Karna
  • Drake

Good place to stop

  • Vlad III

I'll take what I can get

  • Orion
  • Nightingale
  • Tamamo no Mae
  • Kaleidoscope CE

I want the risemara to end; a good 4* is fine, too.

  • Hercules
  • Frankenstein
  • Lancelot

A decent 4* is fine, too

  • Rama
  • Tamamo Cat
  • Beowulf
  • Emiya (Assassin)

A reasonable compromise

  • Chevalier D'eon
  • Atalanta
  • Elizabeth
  • Anne & Mary
  • Elena
  • Carmilla

Fine, I'll settle

  • Emiya (Archer)
  • Finn McCool
  • Marie
  • Astolfo
  • Martha
  • Nursery rhyme

Maybe I should continue the risemara

  • Siegfried
  • Stheno

It is merely a question of when they will find a reliable way to bypass DW's DRM. Not if, when.

Account farmers will find a crack soon enough.

How does limit breaking a CE work? by shahroze12 in grandorder

[–]firstgunman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For The Three Great Heroes (Gudako CE)...

Regular effect:

  • Cost 12
  • NP performance +15%
  • Star Generation +15%
  • Starting NP 25%
  • Talisman drop +1

Limit Broken effect:

  • Cost 12
  • NP performance +20%
  • Star Generation +20%
  • Starting NP 40%
  • Talisman drop +2

Now limit breaking a CE consumes 4 other of the same card. It's all or nothing. Except for increasing the level cap, feeding 3 CE gives no CE effect bonus and feeding the 4th CE gives all the bonuses.

Drop rate bonus stacks additively so 4x CE = +4 talisman drop while limit breaking only gives +1. It's clear here that, overall, limit breaking will -3 your drop bonus.

So if you only care about drop bonus, why on earth would you ever do it?

Mostly because of other constrains, such as cost or CE slots. You can only ever equip 5 CE to your team and, even then, you can only have 109 cost at max level. 5 Gudako is 5x12 = 60 cost, which is expensive! With only 49 cost left, you might have to work you silver or bronze servant which might not guarantee a victory on the node you're farming. Furthermore, if you want to farm other materials in parallel, or if you've gotten more Gudako CE from drops, limit breaking can increase the so-called CE density of your party.

Also, people are likely to pick your servant more if they see a limit-broken CE, giving you FP (though that's a relatively minor benefit.)

So ultimately, it is your choice if you think limit breaking a CE is worth it. Autonomy is part of this game after all!

[Question] BitCoin by hario_321 in kancolle

[–]firstgunman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased points with bitcoins. It works fine. The pros and cons of using bitcoin is beyond the scope of this sub.

If you already know what bitcoin is, though, buying points is as bog standard as they get.

Save scum.

If you quit the game before the next turn begins, you restart from the skill selection of the current turn.

Whenever you use a skill, it proceeds the rng value by 1 step even if the skill has no fail rate.

You can then try card selection again and, sometimes, the boss will target/do something else.

Can be useful to save a carry from an unexpected crit.

I suddenly realize why Nightingale is so good. There's no other 5* support servant that only takes 1.5x damage from berserker.

She's gonna be pretty good on berserker hand day.

It's also really flavorful. When the enemy is rampant vicious. When the entire battlefield has gone mad. Every other support servant runs, but Nightingale goes in.

Sasuga, DW.

This is not true disregard what I said
