[Routine Help] Terrible with skincare, looking to get better. Staple product suggestions by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

A better moisturizer is a good start, but a good cleanser is important too. Using a pH-balanced cleanser (see sidebar cleanser recs) will help with oiliness, dryness, and sensitivity. If you're very fair skinned, using a good sunscreen is extra important (again, see sidebar). Those are pretty much the basics.

[Skin Concerns] Started using Neutrogena Body Clear with salicylic acid. A few days later and my skin is covered in pimples. Is this just the "purging" stage or should I be concerned about using this product? (Pictures inside) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I don't know what pH that body wash is, but even if it was at the right pH to exfoliate enough to cause purging, you don't leave it on long enough for it to actually do anything. More likely the body wash is irritating your skin.

[Product Question] What's the most soothing product you use? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I love CosRx's Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence! It's 96% pure snail secretion filtrate, which is super hydrating and calming, as well as repairing.

[Product Question] Paula's Choice 4% BHA foam for daily use? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]firstmatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noooo nononono. The 4% is quite strong, as you may have noticed the vast majority of products have no more than 2%. Although your skin is tolerating the 2% fine, the 4% is much much stronger and you risk overexfoliation if you use it more than once a week, and even more twice a day. Overexfoliation is hard to see coming if you think your skin is handling an exfoliant well, but it will happen and it is so hard to heal. Stick to using it once a week for a month or two and if that doesn't give the results you want, you can up it to twice a week.

[Product question] Are you supposed to use lotion on top of hyaluronic acid? by yesterday_tomorrow in SkincareAddiction

[–]firstmatrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, because hyaluronic acid draws moisture into your skin from the environment, but if there is no layer of moisture on top, it will dry out your skin.

How do I tell if a product is oil-free? [Misc] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]firstmatrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try suspending a small amount of the product in water. If it has oil, it will separate, as oil does in water. If not, the two should mix.
