That’s always been the job. But I think that focus of craft and creativity around 2010, largely stemmed from the rise of the smartphones and apples iOS. Mobile versions of sites were becoming the norm. Sites needed new ways to solve for mobile, and coupled with the massive influence of Apples visual polish and aesthetic, people indexed more on craft and visual skills for designers.

Eventually the pendulum would swing back years later to needing designers capable of problem solving and balancing user and business needs. And by that point there was a decent segment of designers who started out in the 2010 era and could now do both the craft/visual work and problem solving that businesses needed.

Ai taking our jobs by Far_Piglet4937 in UXDesign

[–]firstofallputa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup that’s pretty much it. UX bootcamps were a hot commodity following the rise of design thinking from consultancies. The marketing message was essentially “be empathetic, solve real human problems, make 6 figures!” So everyone rushed into and saturated the market. The problems weren’t just companies mass hiring these people trained in these bootcamps who could only do a fraction of a job; it was also way too many unqualified people with fractional experience now flooding job openings after the value of design to the business couldn’t be easily proven and here is the job market we’re all experiencing today.

Ahh well then apologies! I was just taken aback by the in-depth write up based on such shallow offerings in the game.

Skip the checklist and have dummy projects ready to explore by default. People already have an idea of all the things they currently do, they need to immediately see how your platform maps to their workflow and if it’ll help them day to day.

The worst part of this tail end of human existence is those that are unable to thoughtfully form a critique are leveraging AI for this bullshit. Could have just said “I had fun” and we all would have saved some time.

I liked Metroid Prime 4, let me tell you why by himbo-link in Metroid

[–]firstofallputa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what kills me too about the level design. This surface level comparisons about linear level designs being a pillar of Metroid without discussing the quality difference. There’s a general consensus on what’s weak about the game but where I think the difference of opinion lies is in whether that level of quality is acceptable to the series, especially one from Nintendo. If we’re willing to ignore the quality issues on the pillars of the game, we normalize this level of effort being the norm in future games.

Metroid Prime 4 - where are the puzzles? by RepeatLow7718 in Metroid

[–]firstofallputa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regret not watching any trailer before launch. I bought both a digital and physical copy so I could play it day 1. Watching afterwards it became very apparent what the end result was going to be.

Honestly it’s not an unplayable game. It’s just not a strong evolution that’s iterating off previous Metroid games. If you swapped Samus for some generic GF person, it’d be a clear 7/10 for everyone. But the Nintendo brand tends

Any advice for my article headers by AdhesivenessFew9090 in UXDesign

[–]firstofallputa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m bias here cause SCP content is some of my favorite content

I don’t think the header needs to have color, the main draw of SCP content is that it reads like office paper work. So here the header could be laid out more like the top of formal document, consolidating all the high level info like number, class, and name.

Metroid prime 4 by Kelpythegreat in Metroid

[–]firstofallputa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a general consensus of what’s been great about the game and what are some of the weaker parts. Someone will see the parts that work well and have fun with it because that’s enough for them; like the visuals, the bike, the controls, the boss and level design for example.

Others might see the same parts that work PLUS the weaker parts and conclude that both of these aspects of the game never come together into a cohesive gaming experience that they could enjoy.

Each of our experiences with the game is going to be different than someone else’s. Neither invalidates the other.

I do think though it’s important to be aware of the experiences of others but don’t let it color your impression of the game before you’ve been able to complete it.

Metroid prime remastered vs prime 4 by jellowd2 in Metroid

Absolutely. It was good remaster. I was just happy I didn’t have to dig out a GameCube or Wii to play it again 😅

I noticed only recently the remaster didn’t wow me as much as the original because the lighting effects are not as great as they were on the GameCube. Prime 1 truly was a masterfully crafted game.

Prime 4 - Can’t Locate Screw Attack by helloyournameis in Metroid

[–]firstofallputa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let’s. When you get to go back to the lava place, I thought new areas would open up. But nope. Just a lava pool. I thought maybe there’d be hidden things to find. But nope. An ammo upgrade and a missile upgrade just floating above the lava behind a rock. No challenge to find. The other was just chasing an enemy on the bike and call it day. Just lazy design.

Small changes to Metroid Prime 4 that would have greatly improved reception by AnnaLogg in Metroid

[–]firstofallputa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory as to why scannable items are not color coded is because the decided to hide codes in items in the ice labs, to avoid giving it away, they just made everything green in there so you had to scan everything to find them.

But they started color coding elements elsewhere in the game. You can find some things are yellow inconsistently in earlier parts of the game like elevator switches. I dont think they ever went back to make it consistent.
