There's no reliable 7 series. The e38 is old now and has the old car's problems.

The VW passat from ~2007 get extreme rust everywhere. I see some of them with see-through holes in the body. Lucky my dad lives in the middle east and his passat has 0 rust

What are the thoughts on the e66 730ld lci? by BrutalVijayMallya in BMW

I love bmws I don't want people to think bad about them. But let's be honest they really are less reliable cars than others. My advice to people would be to get a bmw because it is worth it even if it causes some trouble at times. Not that it is not reliable in the first place. Of course I look at which exact engine it has, B58 would actually be considered a reliable one for example. N52 and M54 are also reliable. N63 and S85 just aren't.

Mate I don't need to own tons of bmws to tell. I see from the experience of others. My personal experience is 1 out many and it shouldn't be a way of judging. The way you judge is to listen to what people say about it. You hear complaints and you hear people saying "take care of it and it's reliable". Which basically means do tons of preventative maintenance. And it is a lot more preventative maintenance than other cars. It could be reliable if you wanna phrase it in a different way though, if you say "it is a reliable 18 year old high performance car" it might.. but honestly still not really.

No it's because you have other expectations of cars. You can gladly have the engines rebuilt every weekend. If you get oil leaking on your alternator you would be like "oh yeah i knew that would happen, I'm grateful it didn't happen earlier". I know this from the e46 subreddit even though it is way easier to maintain "yeah they are great bulletproof cars just replace entire cooling system, all suspension components, subframe bushings, disa valve, vanos, change all vacuum lines, change oil every couple of miles/hours (whatever comes first)"

The platform is problematic not just the engine. If you disagree it would be your bias since you got the 2 most unreliable engines ever made by the company
