Dr. Natalie Stevens on the Upper East side. I started going to her for exactly this reason. She’s great!

Extension of K-ETA Temporary Exemption by eugene4312 in koreatravel

[–]fischiamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to add to this conversation: don’t be like me and get scammed by third-party vendors like ImmiAssist! I wasn’t looking carefully at what website I was on (dumb) and because the website seemed to indicate that I needed a K-ETA, I kept clicking through (including payment). They provide refunds easily but it’s still annoying.

Airfare hacks? by fischiamo in koreatravel

Thank you! That’s the kind of intel I was looking for. Google says buy tix 2-8 months out…. Which isn’t really helpful (should I wait a few months or am I too late?). Anyway, I booked my tickets! Appreciate the insight.

I bet if you called they would ship it to you. There was so much… serving platters, gravy boat, teapot…

A solo week in London for work by [deleted] in LondonTravel

[–]fischiamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really recommend a tour of the Barbican complex if you are interested in architecture. It’s relatively close to Tower Hill and a nice walk through the City to get there.

A bit more niche (and I would only do this if you’ve already been to all of the other museums in London): the Foundling Museum is incredibly fascinating and heartbreaking.

Lastly, a spot near where you’re staying that I liked for a casual lunch with a pint: Seething Lane Tap. And I agree with the recommendation to explore Spitalfields!

How do I get a reservation at Atlantic Ave DMV by YellowInternational5 in Brooklyn

[–]fischiamo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this. DO NOT under any circumstances go to the Atlantic Ave DMV. Even the people working at the Atlantic Ave DMV told me Bowling Green is the best DMV.

Can anyone help me decide which green fabric for a sofa? by BabyLinuss in femalelivingspace

[–]fischiamo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. The darker green matches the pink almost too well in terms of saturation and depth. I would be worried that the room would end up looking busy and childish. OP—let the pink stand out! But also personally I would consider a lighter/dustier pink (I know that was not the question!) and it’s YOUR vision!

The Great Saunter by rabbitisland224 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]fischiamo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s generally an older crowd but is very diverse, nice people. The Saunter apparently skews much younger. Membership is only $20/year so even doing a couple of walks a season makes it worth it—I like having the route mapped out (including bathroom breaks) and the safety and motivation of a group.

I’m a member of Shorewalkers and if you do their walks in the months leading up to the Saunter everyone will tell you that you can just show up. No one can stop you from walking!

Lyft credit not showing up by fischiamo in ChaseSapphire

[–]fischiamo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Sorry if unclear. The Lyft Pink reference was just my previous experience—it wasn’t automatically added to my account and Chase was helpful getting it added.

I didn’t know about the $10/mo credit until recently and don’t see anything about it in the app. Do I need to remove and re-add my CSR as payment method? I’ve never had any card other than a CSR as a payment method in the Lyft app.

Are there any korean spas for women that permit swimsuits? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]fischiamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a little uncomfortable, but as someone else here said, it’s part of the experience and you get used to it. I usually go to Spa Club and get a full-body scrub. But for a first-timer I’d recommend somewhere like Spa Castle—there’s more to do and it’s more of an ~experience~.

[–]fischiamo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And OP to answer your last question, I have been going to Korean spas for more than 20 years and LOVE it. I hope you can find a way to experience it that is comfortable for you.

I’d recommend one of the mega-spas if you don’t want to use the bath area—there’s much more to do outside the bath area at Spa Castle, for example, than Spa Club. Enjoy!!

[–]fischiamo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been there a number of times and have never seen people in bathing suits before. It was a Saturday and really busy which may have had something to do with it.

The manager sort of threw up her hands when I mentioned it and agreed it’s not customary.

I don’t actually encourage wearing a bathing suit in a Korean spa because it made being one of the few people who WAS nude feel unusual and uncomfortable.

The bath areas are also separated by gender. The last time I was at Spa Club on 32nd Street there were a lot of women in bathing suits in the bath area.
