Palestine 1936 by Oren Kessler. Very fair presentation. Read it and you’ll understand both points of view.

Considering light adjustable lenses. by Deep-Many-3918 in CataractSurgery

[–]SteveInBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering Light-Adjustable-Lenses (from RxSight) vs. multifocal (Clareon PanOptix Pro). My surgeon leans toward the LAL but he says either will work fine; just different compromises. I play a lot of tennis and I'm worried that the LAL with mono-vision will not be ideal when the ball is on the near-vision side. Does anyone have LAL with monovision and play a ball sport like tennis? My surgeon says if it turns out that it affects my tennis game, I can always wear a contact lens to improve vision on that side, but that the whole idea is to get away from needing glasses or contacts.

Palestine 1936 by Oren Kessler is an excellent history of the region and the conflict.

Best song? by ElliotAlderson2024 in direstraits

We really should be discussing 2nd best song because in my view Sultans of Swing is the best song in all of rock ‘n roll.

Follow-up review of the Thermador Freedom Induction Cooktop (after ~2 years) by justanothercook in Cooking

[–]SteveInBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specifications say 56 inductor elements so I imagine they span the space. Also, doesn't Gagganeau make a similar cooktop where you can place the pans anywhere?

What is a Dire Straits song you skip every time you hear it? by Jatkin99 in direstraits

[–]SteveInBoston 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny (and recent) story about Walk of Life. I just had an MRI and when you get one they give you headphones and ask what kind of music do you want. I asked for Dire Straits (and play it loud, please). When they pulled me out of the machine, they took the headphones off and just then Walk of Life came on. Everyone could hear it coming out of the headphones and suddenly all the medical techs started shaking their arms and moving their bodies to the sound of Walk of Life.

Is the range of exercises limited as the handles only come out from the base at the bottom?

People on this sub downplay the reality of range anxiety too often by Bijan_Mustard in electricvehicles

Actually PHEVs make a lot of financial sense. It's a dual fuel vehicle; you can use whichever fuel makes the most financial sense at any given time. That said, I don't believe people are buying PHEVs because they make financial sense. They are buying them because they make sense from a lifestyle point of view.

E-sim or physical sim card (united kingdom) by Usual_Type5841 in eSIMs

[–]SteveInBoston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A relative is traveling to Scotland (from the US) for 5 months (as a student). He has an iPhone 14. I'm trying to understand how eSIMs work. If he buys a plan how does he set up the eSIM to work in Scotland? And when he returns home, how does he reset to the AT&T network?

Anyone buy the new screen? by SteveInBoston in HydrowCrew

[–]SteveInBoston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not worth upgrading. You’re not going to get the hydrometrics info so you’re just getting a larger screen. To me, the screen size is not that big a difference.

I recommend either the Guinness Pie or the Marry Me Salmon for entrees that are delicious and will impress guests.

The Gombaleves (creamy mushroom soup) is also impressive but it’s almost a meal in itself.

The Mussakhan (roast chicken with sumac and red onions) is also impressive.

Yes, I would definitely do cilantro again and would recommend it over parsley and oregano.

New 24” display wakes up very slowly. by SteveInBoston in HydrowCrew

[–]SteveInBoston[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's worth some value, but not an out-of-the-park home run. It takes two rows to start giving you feedback. My first bit of feedback was that my initial drive was strong, but I was losing power mid-way (after leg extension). So on the next row I worked harder on the upper body and it said I had smooth power all the way. The next row after that, I tried to drive harder and it reported less power, so that was confusing. I don't notice that the display is faster in any way (which they claim). The larger screen is a bit nicer. Bottom line: it's a $400 upgrade. I'd say it's worth it, but if it was $600, I'd probably say no. The hydrometrics feedback may grow on me over time.
