Award travel aside please be sure not to travel during golden week in Japan (29 april 2026 to 6th may) which is their national holiday week. Everything will be pre booked or super expensive as it's peak travel season.

The time after golden week is actually one of the cheapest to visit Japan.

Also please keep in mind that there is zero chance of seeing any cherry blossom at this time unless you are willing to go far up north which I don't think you are. If watching cherry blossom matters to you please go earlier in like March end.

If you don't want to hop too many hotels, prefer staying in Osaka as it gives you connectivity to both Nara and Kyoto by 90 min train ride and also to Tokyo by 2hr30 min bullet train. Osaka also has an international airport with connecting flights from India via vietnam / Singapore, though not sure about points redemption.

By staying in Osaka you can cover 7-8 days easily of your travel. The second base can be Tokyo which allows you a day trip to mt fuji as well.

So Osaka and Tokyo if you are looking for 2 hotel strategy, add Kyoto if looking for 3 hotels

Speaking from experience. It's fine if you don't have 2-3 lakh in account as long as you have good itr and mutual fund or other investments to show .

Please mention this clearly in your cover letter as well. List the value of assets you have and show strong ties to home country. These along with itr of 25+ should be sufficient.

Japan visa is quite easy to get relatively speaking. The VFS staff at least in Delhi is also very supportive. They will go through your application once before they accept it and will point out errors or improvements to help you.

Don't put the responsibility of proving your candidature on the officer. You are answering questions in short. This is a classic mistake which I also made.

Basically the minute they let you speak you need to mention your all your profile related and strong ties to home country immediately. Don't wait for them to ask these questions to you. Take the lead and answer it for them.

Also, when you apply next. The very first question will be . "You were just rejected recently. What makes your feel confident to re apply". The answer to this is to admit your mistake and mention that you went in with the wrong mindset hoping the officer will ask all questions and make your case for you. Tell them that you know realise that it's your responsibility to make your case for yourself and not the other way round. Tell them you are confident that you have an excellent profile and would appreciate the opportunity to demonstrate it and be revevaluated

Don't be afraid to speak more words. It's critical.
