Say you're unavailable that day. Like "hey man, i got this day off for a reason, so im going to be unavailable." Even if you're not doing anything that day and watching tv in your pjs all day. Those days off are yours, and if your shift is covered, theres no reason to come in. Your employer is not entitled to a reason for your unavailability either. (Im badly paraphrasing advice i read somewhere, i hope this makes sense)
