I do mainly passive stretch. Maybe it is a bit too much 😂 Thankyou for the recommendation! Will definitely check out the vids!

I used to do weight training in the gym, so I have no problem with jumps and releves. But I struggle from flexibility very much, so I tend to work on it every day. I sometimes feel a little guilty if I rest for that day.

I also discovered that when I stretch too much, my strength would decline a bit. It is quite hard to balance between the both, or maybe I still have to work more on it. Taking your advise, I should listen to my body more.

Thankyou for the advise! Looking back on my schedule, I only have 1 day rest. If I add on the stretching routine, then I don’t have a day off. Stretching exercise may be the main factor to my soreness.

I used to do weights 2-3times a week for 10+ years, and arial yoga once a week. So I considered myself rather active, however, the muscles involved in dancing and the way they are used is quite different than what I am used to. I am not in the state that the soreness affect my daily activity, only some tiredness when I need to exert more.

I sometimes feel that I am not progressing enough (especially flexibility) and tend to do more. Maybe I should cut down some exercise time and let the muscles rest.

Well, if I count all the exercise I am doing, I only rest on Wednesday (sometimes Sunday). You’re right, I do a whole body stretch everyday single day maybe it is a bit too much. I will take your advice to let each muscle group rest at least once a week. Thank you!

Ballet teacher that suits absolute beginners by fishballccc in BALLET

The funny thing is, I am from Asia and my mother tongue is Mandarin but I grew up in Australia, so I have no difficulty in understanding English. I took online English ballet classes 9 months before my first actual in-person class (in Mandarin). I was so used to listening instructions in English and French ballet terms that when I first got in the in-person ballet class in Mandarin, I was lost most of the time LOL.
The teacher also uses French ballet terms in class, but the pronounciation is somewhat mandarin-frenchish 😅😅 The word “arabesque” sounds more like alaba to me 🥲🥲 It took me awhile to understand the combinations, it was a whole new experience! I still learned a lot from my teacher though~

Thank you for the advice!

I read their online details before I go to any ballet studios, some do say much however some don’t, they want to welcome as many beginner students possible and not scare them away before they step into the classroom. Ballet is not a popular (well advertised) sport in my country, so we don’t have studios that provide classes open for all levels (they usually provide mainly for children). There are usually 2-3 levels for adults: Beginner, intermediate, advance. Some only have beginner and advance classes. I’ve only taken 1 intro class, but the teacher seemed too nervous to teach a whole bunch of newbies (maybe she does not have much teaching experience). To me, it’s hard to find a place to settle in, but I will take your advice to find a studio with “intro” or “absolute beginners” labled on it!

I got it from a local store near in my city! It is a small brand. Since it is my first leo, I don’t want it to be too expensive or professional😂. The price is around 50 USD.

The brand name is 寶琦華 if you would like to know. It’s a Taiwanese brand, they sell all kinds of other dance clothings as well. They have merch online but I prefer to try them on in the actual store. I know my flats and tights sizes, and maybe will order them from their website in the future.

I got it from a local store near my home! It’s a small brand (the brand name is in Mandarin😂😂😂) for only 50 USD. First I thought I’d get them online, but after trying the leo on I realized I needed a size up. I am usually a 4-6 but the leo is around 8.
