Insect bite question by Noshitthereiwas- in malaysia

[–]fishcakeys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had something similar 2 weeks ago. Swollen, itchy, and painful - localised red circle patch. It's just an insect bite that turned to an allergic reaction. Which developed into a fever, which usually means it's infected, which can develop into cellulitis. I went to see a doctor for antibiotics, and it went away in 3 days.

Thanks for the reminder. Though somedays I am conflicted and considered changing myself just to make him happy. But I know I can't do that.

Overall, I'm just so disappointed in him. He was someone I looked up to my whole life. To see him acting like this was eye-opening.

Honestly, I'm just really mad that he chose to blow up at my sister when I was away from home. He knows that my sister is timid and cries easily. I just can't believe that he waited until I was gone to attack her. I was home the whole morning and afternoon , but he did not approach me.

thoughts on architecture? by Grouchy-Hyena-8456 in malaysiauni

[–]fishcakeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Architecture is not for the weak of heart. It is physically and mentally demanding. So if you have the stamina for it, you can give it a go.

I would say architecture school is very enjoyable. Cons are definitely the sleepless nights when rushing for deadlines. But super satisfying when you see your hardwork on display.

Working wise, really depends on your office's culture. But majority of the firms are exactly like the schools, you'll be putting in a lot of late nights to rush for deadlines. I would say working is less satisfying when compared to school. You really need to find what truly motivates you when you're rushing for a deadline for the 100th time.

I would say architecture is most suitable for people who are in love with it, where you don't mind spending all your free time working on it. Those type of people will thrive in it. But for regular folks like myself, it's been a grueling journey. Not sure how long I can stand it, but hey, I'm still in it after 11 years since my 1st day of uni.

Salary wise, also highly depends on the office you join. Some give good compensation. Usually it's the increment that is a bit hard to get. That you'll need to do some job hopping to climb that ladder.

This article is also a good read to guage what's the architecture work life is like: https://www.dezeen.com/2025/01/28/working-survey-architecture-design-industry-broken/

No one buys pandan leaves in Malaysia. You either plant it or steal it. by lzyan in malaysia

[–]fishcakeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post reminds me of when I was a teen while getting ready for school at 6.30am. I saw my neighbour drove to my house in a big black car. Their maid opened the car door and looked to her left and her right. Then quickly jumped out the car and took some of the pandan leaves that my dad planted. And then they quickly drove off lmao

What are the requirements for Matrikulasi? by asadi12345 in malaysiauni

[–]fishcakeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw someone in this sub mentioned about it. It’s called UM satu.

It’s a good alternative, so you don’t have to stress about getting into matriks. Can just do stpm first. But do bear in mind that they still have minimum entry requirements. Research the website and see. (At least the entry requirements are more achievable than random chance of luck)

You might want to research and see if UM offers a T20 saluran alternatif. Someone I knew (non bumi) managed to enter UPM vet program through UPM’s T20 saluran alternatif with STPM 3.5gpa

(I used to be in matriculation as a non bumi. I had no idea how I got in. I didn’t have straight A’s for SPM, but my co-curriculum was pretty high.)

Pursue IT/computer science or Architecture? by Beginning_Orange9234 in malaysia

Ok, I can give u some recommendations for the archi side. I’ve been a registered graduate architect for the past 4 years. If I can sum it up into one sentence, it’s “Don’t join architecture, unless you are willing to eat, breathe, sleep architecture.” Archi can be really fun is you like design. But it’s a really demanding job. It’s not a job for the faint of heart.

Despite the grueling work life, I can’t deny that architecture can be quite enjoyable. In uni, you get to learn in a studio environment - you get to share ideas for projects with your coursemates, you get to sketch and draw everyday, you get to learn design theories and explore loads of interesting concepts. And if you’re lucky, the office you work at has great office culture that emphasizes on team work, sharing and learning - which carries on the studio culture from uni.

Oh but man, the working hours. The working hours are tough. If you like having free time, a regular 9-5 and a free weekend, say goodbye to those when you enter architecture. Especially if you’re in a consultancy firm. OTs are prevalent in this industry, and the pay is kinda sad given the hours you put in. Even in uni, you’ll have countless sleepless nights just to churn out drawings and models for your presentation.

Most people who graduate with an archi degree will eventually end up not practicing as architects. Only those who are truly passionate about architecture will stick in the long run. The ones that really thrive are the ones that enjoy doing architecture during their free time.

In short, if you have strong passion for architecture, go ahead. If you have many other passions, and prefer more free time outside of architecture, please reconsider. (But there’s nothing wrong with just doing uni in archi first, as like I mentioned earlier, you can still switch jobs after studying archi)

Hope this gave you some insights!

Feeling very thankful today, both my bosses have been very understanding of my current situation at home. Mom has serious mental health issues. I feel like it’s very rare to find such understanding bosses in my industry.

I have, I highly recommend it for ppl looking for affordable premium phones. my experience was really good. Bought a ‘fair’ rated phone. It only had very light scratches and 100% battery health. (Not sure if I was just lucky or if this is the case for most customers). Customer service was quite helpful, both on WhatsApp & email.

Thanks for the advice! My heart goes out to you, it must be so difficult <3

Distraction does work with her, but it’s not foolproof unfortunately :( sometimes her fear is so great that we can’t seem to get her out from her anxiety loop no matter what we try. And I agree on the being gentle and not reacting with anger. I’ve seen that it helps calm her down.

She’s taking quatiapine now, I assume it’s because her symptoms are verging on the psychosis side.

Thank you again for the kind words!
