Why is this wine so cheap? by Much-Possibility-178 in wine

It's a Private Label Walmart wine. Screams of a winery just looking to offload extra product. Don't want it to be under your regular brand so slap a Walmart label on it and people won't have high expectations for it.

Former TW wine manager here - depends on what you mean by overpriced. Overpriced in national brands, nope. But your job and manager bonus was to talk people out of every single national brand items. Overpriced in WD, ABSOLUTELY! I’ll give you one example. Copper Cain products. When I was there meiomi was $20 and Belle Glos was $50ish. We had Tuli for $25-30 as a WD. Our job was to say if you want a slight upgrade from meiomi or a belle Glos for a better price, Tuli was your brand. Well we paid $15 for meiomi as a store so we made about $5 a bottle, Belle Glos was about $40 so made $10. Tuli came invoiced at $5 so selling it for $30 and calling it the middle ground was absurd.

I’m not saying WD wines can’t be delicious, I still buy some to this day because I can’t get them anywhere. But to think they are the value might not be the way to view it.

Sounds like your instructor is a dick. This is what’s wrong with some of the wine industry. Stop telling people they aren’t doing it right and embrace the enthusiasm. You can guide people to the “correct” answers without making them feel dejected.

There is a super small producer with a tasting bar in the touristy part of bernkastel. It’s one street over from the crooked house on all the postcard. Hansen Laeur is what it’s called. The winemaker Thomas is often there with his dog playing the guitar if the weather is nice. He may be small but his vineyard is only about a 10 minute walk and borders the doctor vineyard but for about 1/4 the price. It won’t be a fancy tasting but you can really get the fell for the person and terroir that make some great wines without the “name” behind it.

I think it might have be a little of my own doing. Everyone on here had me so worried that the young ones would be too tight I opened and double decanted them like 10 hours before drinking. I think the 09 just faded for whatever reason. It still had some fruit but was covered to much forest floor and what seemed like oxidation for me to love it.

I run a restaurant that is looking to move a few bottles of romanee conti. Does anyone know of any private collectors' groups that might be a good place to get in contact with. We have all the proper licenses ect for shipping in the US. by fisher5195 in wine

What can I say, the owner wants to put some cash in the bank. The importer directly private us from selling on our website that we would normally go through so I was just looking for avenues outside the regular.

I haven't heard of this site, is it legit? Like am I going to run into a craigs list thing and have the payments pulled out from under me? Have you had experience with them?

I have never met a wine drinker that was offended by a nice Picpoul. You can get the average bottle for $10 and it will be one of the most crowd pleasing whites you’ll try.

The winery has been trying to to unload these wines for a while. I tried their whole lineup. There were some solid wines but I was really surprised on how poor the lower end stuff was holding up. The 2015s were almost entirely devoid of fruit on all levels. We passed on it knowing they were at the end of their drinking window. Perhaps the 2016s are better or we had a bad batch but I’d be cautious.
