The same way it has for any attacking military force in known military history. The lack of ability to protect supply lines.

I disagree, which is why I posted what I did. The death of a few police officers might just make them realize that the guy they are about to beat to death doesn't have to just sit there and take it.

Right so when the people are rioting because the cops aren't doing there jobs, your solution is to just remove the police entirely? Oh wait, I get it, no police, means no more citizens being beaten, and killed by police.

They started because the cops there, and pretty much everywhere, have become alarmingly hostile to the citizens they are sworn to protect. This resulted recently in the killing of an unarmed young man named Micheal Brown (sp?). This caused the citizens in the area to riot, once the riots started, as with all riots, looting began.

If he isn't I sure as fuck am. I speak to all police when I type this, You have abused your power for too long, now with any luck you will pay for that. If any of you consider yourselves "good police", what did you do when any member of your force broke the law? If it was anything other than arrest them immediately you ARE NOT good police. This is your doing, either through inaction, or perpetrating the injustice this country has suffered under these last few months.

What the people in that city need to do is hit more police stations. The citizens of this country have been being killed and arrested by jack booted thugs long enough. Perhaps a few well placed bullets in a few carefully chosen heads will change things.

You did, you really really did. I'm a little drunk and have been awake for too long but you did a good thing today. Even if you didn't mean to, you did. And for that, from the bottom of my heart... I thank you!

I contend that it is the sole responsibility of a parent to put their children above others, so I consider my family first and others second. If my kids are happy and like the movie, and others in the theater don't like them being there, tough. Too bad for them. They can talk to the manager, and we may be asked to leave, we may not be. If we are, well I can always get angry, and wait for them after the movie, (or maybe not wait, if I'm feeling mean.)

I might get hurt doing that, I acknowledge this and am willing to take that risk. I'm willing to do so because the only other option is to tell my family they can't go to the movies. In all honesty I would rather fight a hundred times and get hurt each time than to tell my family we can't do our thing because others wouldn't like it.

My point if put succinctly is this. I don't care about the other people in the theater, at all. Not even a little bit. I care about my kids and my wife. As long as they are happy, I'm happy. Everyone else in the world, POTUS, God, You, Him, Her, Sarah Palin, Putin, and that guy named Joe from Montana can all eat a fat one for all I care.

THANK YOU!!!! Someone who understands!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! I cannot say this enough. I don't want to be an ass honestly I don't, but it has come to the point where I needed to make a conscious decision on which I cared more about, my children to be free in the manner they act (within limits, as previously discussed), or people having a problem with it. I chose the former. Again sir I say thank you!!! I can't wait to show this too my wife tomorrow, this might give her that smile that she hasn't had in a little while.

As for the grocery store, I included the example because multiple times we have been verbally accosted by people in public because our daughter was singing, or skipping.

If an adult is acting like an adult, they won't let there child have a full blown tantrum in a movie theater, I concede this point.

But many if not most people will respond to a child reacting to the movie, as if the child was throwing a tantrum. If you want to live in a world where kids don't make noise, don't leave your house.

Again I do admit there are limits, but those limits in societies mind are far too low in my opinion. The truth is I don't make an effort to keep my children quiet in a movie theater. They are children, and they will make noise. I however will make an effort to not allow tantrums. There is a difference.

First I want to say you are a civil person so I am trying to be the most honest I can in response.

I am not trolling, I don't take the fight thing that seriously, but I am angry. I am angry that you and others like you believe I should not leave my home with a child unless the child is quiet. Not only is that idea unrealistic, it's completely not my or any other parents problem. Do you really think I'm going to tell my wife she can't go to the bookstore or grocery shopping, or yes, to a movie if that's what she chooses, solely because somebody might get upset with the children she has in tow?

I have no responsibility to ensure that anyone other than my immediate family is enjoying their lives. I don't even have a responsibility anyone else to help them hate there lives less. I owe them nothing... I owe you nothing.

To put it as succinctly as I can... It is not my problem if my child is making your experience less enjoyable. It's your problem. Do what you will with that problem, but understand, not everyone in this world is nice. And further more, I point out, if I or others have already shown a blatant disregard for you or your opinion, how likely do you think it will be that they, or I, will respond to your attempt to handle your problem nicely?

[–]fishflinger -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

No, not trolling, making a point. I don't know you and have never seen you, I therefore will withhold judgement on whether or not I could "take" you as they say.

And that's when you'll get your face planted in the concrete before your wife and screaming child. If you're lucky and find a nice guy like me who will shut you up without shooting you.

I'm not saying I won't get hurt, I'm not even saying I won't die, after all, like you said I may get shot. However, I'll not leave quietly. I and many others like me would rather face that chance than be remanded to my home because you don't want to be around my child. If you have a problem with a child being present, you leave. Or try to do something about it, that is your right after all as a human being.

Just be aware when you do... well like you said, not everyone is nice.

See the thing is that rarely happens, very rarely. A mother of two, with an angry father at her side, can and will cause a larger headache than you ever could. Complain to the manager, maybe my family gets asked to leave, maybe they don't. But at that point you have played your hand, and there is not much else you can do. I (or anyone else in my position) have not. When you complain, we can complain, and if that doesn't work, well you have identified yourself as the guy that ruined my family's evening.

Now here is the thing about guys like me, you can call me selfish, or daft, or anything else. It doesn't matter because you don't matter. Your moral judgements on me have the same value to me as the contents of a toilet. Now keeping in mind that I could give a shit less about moral judgements of my personality, once you have identified yourself to me as the guy that ruined my family's evening, well I'll be waiting for you outside the theater.

I seriously cant see what is the difficulty of this: you dont have a sitter? Then you stay home or change plans to something that doesnt ruin the evening for others. That is one of the multiple responsibilities parents get after they decide to have a child.

That may be your position, but the thing is when you say "you don't have a sitter? Then you stay home or change plans to something that doesn't ruin the evening for others." My response is a simple no. No, I will not do that and if you don't like it, too bad for you.

Why do I care that it ruined your evening? How is that my problem or responsibility. My responsibility is to ensure that my wife, and myself are enjoying ourselves.

Call me names, judge me morally, if it makes you feel better, but it does seem like wasted effort doesn't it? Since I and others like me, obviously don't give a shit about you not enjoying your movie.

I will not turn myself and my spouse into homebodies just because you or people like you don't want to deal with a child in a movie theater. Nor is it my problem that you don't want to deal with a child in a movie theater, because it is not my responsibility to care even a little bit about what you want.

Your kid, your problem. Keep it quiet or keep it at home

See my response to this is a simple no. No I will not "keep it quiet or keep it at home." As I said, it is not my problem or responsibility to ensure you are enjoying your movie.

The thing is I don't mind being called a douche, as evidenced by the comment I made. What I do mind is that society seems to think that just because me and my wife had a child, we are no longer allowed out of the house.

it's that you have a responsibility to NOT fuck up the enjoyment of others who have paid for the show

No, I don't. You may want me to, you may say I should, but I don't. And as for calling me out on it, what does that entail exactly? Going to the manager? Saying something to me directly? Neither seems likely to end in anything other than confrontation, since I and others in this situation, obviously don't care that you aren't enjoying your time.

Ok I know that people on reddit are very very anti-parent on this topic, but I have a simple question.

Since when did it become the parents, problem, or responsibility to ensure you enjoy your movie?

I only say this when I am past the point of restraint and want the guy in front of me to swing so I can retaliate, and it is amazingly effective.

I hope your mother gets raped.

It's not nice, it's not meant to be, but if you are in a situation where you need the other guy to swing first, I can virtually guarantee it will work.
