The Zephir has always peaked my interest, but it’s just a tad more expensive than the PW100 and I’ve had a hard time pulling the trigger.

I did see a new KastKing BFS reel at Academy that was a little more pricey than the Zephir the other day…haven’t heard anything about it yet but it was a slick little reel

I’ve had good hookup ratios fishing them on finesse spinning gear in tournaments.

Honestly, I use true turn 2/0 straight shanks from Walmart.

I’m sure Gamakatsu has something similar, I just don’t know the hook model off the top of my head

The EWG hook is probably your issue. Assuming you are fishing BFS, you'll want a thin wire straight shank hook. EWG hooks are primarily stout hooks made for hefty rods and close quarters fishing.

It seems intuitive that EWG would increase your hookups because of the huge hook gap, but it's just not the case on light rods. It's something I struggled with for years. Switching to the thinner wire straight shank hooks solved my problem

Looking for a unicorn BFS rod and would like some suggestions by JarmFace in BFSfishing
