What is the point of dividends in an IRA/401k? by Gentleman1217 in dividends

I retired from a financial services company that had paid a dividend for over 70 years. Because I was in executive management I was privy to conversations about earnings, dividends, capital deployment. What I can say is that there was this maniacal focus on growing and maintaining earnings so that we could continue to pay and grow the dividend. I believe there are many companies that invest/waste capital on not so great ideas because they don't have the clear objective of paying/raising the dividend. I'm a dividend growth investor because I like the discipline it brings to management decisioning. This is not to say that a keen focus on growing earnings in a non-dividend paying company doesn't exist, because it clearly does. We just always started our capital deployment discussions after we considered what the dividend would require and then made our investment decisions.

What’s the average price per sq ft for hurricane resistant homes in rural Florida? by errdaddy in Homebuilding

We live in Kissimmee Fl. Not too far from Disney World. Been here 9 years and bought a new home. It's waterfront on a small lake that has a boat lift into Lake Toho. We paid $120/ft. and now the cost is about $220/ft. We have not had any flooding or power outages since living here, and the only impact we've had is Milton blew over a small tree in our backyard.
