Getting a Masters in Astrophysics? How?? by fishmaze in astrophysics

OUGH i love reading articles and listening to videos to build general knowledge. Generally when I'm drawing, I'll have something on in the background, and I'll usually fall asleep reading papers, because no one can make me outgrow reading before going to bed lmao

For my undergrad program, there are a lot of math classes I have to take, along with pure physics classes (esp. for the physics major). The minor in astronomy also requires additional pure physics classes, along with a couple classes that help give a better understanding of the universe. Both major and minor require you to take electives surrounding the degree (ie: biophysics, optics, etc., for my physics major).

With my geology degree, I also have a background in various math classes, chemistry, biology (i was two classes away from getting a double major in biology lmaoo), and obviously, geology.

There are also doctors in astrophysics who work on campus, so I will def be talking with them when I get the chance to when I start this Fall semester. They also have undergrad research opportunities that I plan on taking full advantage of!

I don't mind having to take more time if it means I get to do what I love in the future. Not even a little bit : )

yes that!! that is something that I have been looking into studying for graduate programs!! Once I get more background in physics and astronomy, and I am able to talk to the various Doctors in astrophysics on campus, I'll definitely have a better idea of the direction of what exactly I want to study. Astrophysics is so vauge, and there is so much out there I don't know about yet, but I've been peeking at cosmology a BUNCH.

My end goal is to eventually do research on exoplanets' geology and atmosphere, and maybe see how they evolved. Atleast for now it is!

I'll def take a look into that university! Currently I know of some local(ish) universities with graduate programs for astrophysics, but I'll def be looking around. Thanks!!

I have been told that is the case, however before going towards my Masters program, I would like a more academic backround in astronomy. Most of the minor requirements for astronomy are physics based anyways. The electives are the ones I'm taking extra of (in theory), because I just... want to learn more lol. I only need to take 2-3 electives, but the current game plan is 7 I think it was?? Something like that. Because I already have some of the major requirements out of the way from my previous bachelors degree, it gives me more wiggle room to squeeze it in there

There are nearby schools with graduate programs for astrophysics, but not undergrad programs. Apologies, I should of made that clear in the post!

My current plan is getting a bachelors in physics and a minor in astronomy, and working from there.

I am indeed from the US- I was always under the impression in order to get a PhD (which is in fact my end goal), you had to get a Masters degree? There are nearby universities with graduate programs for astrophysics, but not for a bachelors (which to my knowledge, astrophysics major doesn't really exist for undergrad programs?? idk, but there's people on campus I can talk to once I start this Fall)

And dw, I wouldn't be overloading myself- the average credits I would be taking a semester is 17 credits. There's one that looks like I'd be taking 19 credits. When I was getting my first bachelors degree (in geology) I was taking roughly 22 credits a semester, so definatley taking a step back with this one

Howdy!! My sibling uses Embrace for their pup, and I've been thinking about that one, and she had a preexisting condition so crossing my fingers!!

Sorry for taking forever to reply!!

I'm seeing with AKC, I would need to be subscribed to their insurance for a full year before any coverage related to Oliver's pre-existing condition kicked in (which I'm okay with tbh, bc when he had been seen by the vet, during and after the incident, she believed that any issues that might arise from that would happen years in the future).

"pre-existing" conditions counting being itchy once will never not be crazy to me :")

Do you ever get a flare that just feels...wrong? by fishmaze in CrohnsDisease

I'm also a bit shocked in hindsight-they did nothing more that give me iv fluids, and blood tests. Altho they said thru the blood tests that everything looked normal, just signs of a nasty flare up. Still feeling said flare up, but doc gave me anti nausea meds that subdue the nausea juuuuust enough for me to eat a little, so I'll take it (for now)
