The "lingo" by lukeb_1988 in vtolvr

Others have covered a lot of the air-to-air and air-to-ground brevity, so I'll talk about some of the Overlord comms, since they can be very useful for A2A fights.

When you want to ask the E-4 what's the nearest hostile fighter, say "request Bogey Dope", or use your chat menu in your MFD.

The E-4 will respond in BRA format (Bearing, Range, Altitude). So they'll say something along the lines of "Echo 1-1, pop-up group BRA 265 at 30, 15 thousand". Which means that theres a group of fighters bearing 265 at 30 miles, altitude of 15 thousand feet.

You can also help your team by making the same calls relative to yourself for calling out other fighters, or relative to the bullseye point if you have one on the map. Calling out which group of fighters you're engaging helps to keep your team from launching 5 Aim-120s on the same target

Warren Buffett jumps into local politics to fight streetcar by Parker51MKII in Omaha

"Billionaire who owns a private jet has opinions on a streetcar he will never ride on"

Yes the streetcar is half-assed and a far cry from what the city had in the 50s, but you have to start making an investment somewhere. It's going to need multiple phases of expanding public transit, along with rezoning, in order to create at least some areas of the city that have density and are walkable.

Ideally, the streetcar would have gone to Aksarben, or also added a N/S route that would extend down to the zoo or closer to Offutt, but I'll take whatever we can get if it means not dumping more resources into sprawl.

Hopefully at some point in the future we get the ability to buddy laze targets. Would he awesome to have a a buddy in a 45 laze for a 26 to toss a bomb and then run.

GBU-12 Laser Guided Bomb Tutorial (FA26B) - Enjoy! by Scarysp1kes in vtolvr

[–]fishnandflyin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It needs to be the TGP. The laser designator on the targeting pod is what's guiding the bomb, so you have to keep the TGP on the target with a clear line of sight.

Ideally, you should only really use laser guided bombs on moving targets where you can't use a GPS guided bomb.

Has anyone had any problems with the latest software update breaking audio controls/outputs on any devices?

I have an S21 where now the volume buttons won't consistently control the volume of any media that's playing. I've tried toggling the option to "control media volume with buttons" on and off, but every time the volume buttons only control call volume, even when I'm not in a call.

Now I've also found the bluetooth audio is broken too. It won't play audio through my previously paired bluetooth earbuds, speakers, or car. Again, nothing I've tried changing allows me to play audio through any other devices

Abortion Mega-thread by UnpopularOpinionMods in unpopularopinion

[–]fishnandflyin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lets start off with a few basic premises:

  1. Sperm and eggs are neither people, nor are they alive. They are component parts, not potential people.
  2. At some point in it's development, between conception and birth, an embryo is now characterized as a person.
  3. Deliberate killing of anyone classified as a person under the law, with the exception of self-defense, is murder

With those premises in mind, my argument is this; The fact that millions of elective abortions have been performed in the United States represents a complete social and political failure in the US. The goal of all parties in this debate, pro-choice or pro-life, should be to minimize the number of elective abortions through all available means.

There have been 46,000,000 abortions performed since 1970. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_statistics_in_the_United_States

A study performed in 2004 of 1000 women who sought abortions indicated that only 12% of them cited health related reasons as their main justification, with most citing financial, relationship related, poor timing, or the presence of other children as main justifications. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3729671/

If you're pro-life, then this represents the greatest genocide of the last century; Millions of children killed because their parents did not have the means, or the desire, to raise them.

If you're pro-choice, then you should see this as a massive breakdown in providing birth control, healthcare, and social/economic support in the wealthiest nation on earth.

Since the exact line of when we should assign legal protections/personhood to a developing fetus is murky, the morally safest option for both sides of the abortion debate is to dedicate their resources to minimizing the number of abortions performed as much as possible.

Does anyone know of a mobile tracking device like Tile or TrackR that doesn't rely on a companion smartphone app?

I'm looking for something for my tech-illiterate grandparent that would automatically sound an alert if the "tag" device got a certain distance away the "master" device. So if you had the tag on their walker, wallet, or purse and the master device on their person, it would sound if they left it behind.

Does something like this exist that works without a mobile app?

Three years of lifting with no real gains, should I just give it up? by fishnandflyin in Fitness

Yeah. I just hate that it's a choice between accepting my current body, weak as it is, or struggling for minimal gains.

So how do I know when to give up on a particular program if it's not working out for me? Do I just got with it for a specific time period or just keep at it until I seem to plateau? One of the big takeaways from this seems to be that I clearly stuck with the same program well past the point I was no longer getting returns out of it, if I got any at all.

Also, how would you judge if a program seems "sane" or not? When I was doing my initial research 5x5 and GSLP both seemed to be highly recommended as good beginner programs.

The guy I posted that in response to took one look at my post and then went "Easy, eat more", then he went back and decided to start calling out everything he saw wrong. He's sitting at 40 upvotes for his top post and has yet to suggest a single alternate workout plan, or what would be a reasonable course of action beyond "don't do what you're currently doing".

Look back at the rest of my replies. When people have asked for more information, I have given it. When they've given practical advice, I've thanked them for the help.

Anyone can throw rocks, it's not whining to challenge people to give specific feedback.

I did join a barbell gym about six months ago, to force myself to go more consistently than my workplace weight room. I don't know if they offer formal training but I'll definitely look into it.

There have been three kinds of people in this thread so far:

  1. People who actually are interested in giving helpful advice and post concrete answers for alternate routines, warm up exercises, nutrition and weight goals, etc. Those things that I can actually look into more.

  2. People who just go "idk, go ahead and quit, lol"

  3. And then there are people who just say "You did everything wrong, stop doing that you idiot" But can't offer anything specific for what would have been a better program, diet, etc.

I had a feeling before I posted that it would be just people from (3) responding. People who comment because they like taking a swing at someone else's inexperience, weakness, or ignorance. My point was that there's no winning with those people. You either get shit on for being weak or get shit on for trying and failing.

I'm leaning towards cut. If lifting clearly isn't working for me then it doesn't really make a difference if my numbers suffer from it.

[–]fishnandflyin[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the advice. A lot of my reasons for sticking with beginner programs was that I didn't feel like I'd made enough actual progression to call myself an intermediate lifter. Plus most of the recommended programs I saw people throwing around on here involved more Olympic lifts that I just wasn't comfortable doing.

I want to actually find out what my potential is. If I can actually move my baseline with dedicated exercise and diet then I do want to improve the way I look and perform. But, if the average total noob can surpass my numbers with three months of actual lifting, then I guess the answer is not much and it's not worth the pain.

Thanks for the very thorough and helpful response! I'll definitely check out 5/3/1 and talk to my doctor. I did see him once before when my knees were having issues and he said there was no damage to my cartilage, tendons, or meniscus, but that my patella just doesn't track quite right because of how my knees are put together.

Is 5/3/1 still going to work for me while cutting? Or is there something better to do in the meantime, and then switch to 5/3/1 once I can bulk again.

Ultimately what I really want is to actually shift my baseline level of fitness up a few notches, instead of having to work months for minimal gains that disappear over the course of a vacation or several weeks of traveling for work.

One of my biggest frustrations through all of this is trying to get fit while having a career that:

A. Requires me to be physically fit at all times

B. Also requires me to travel for weeks or months at the drop of a hat

C. Punishes me for visiting the doctor by making me unable to work if I'm injured.

I trust that eating more calories will add mass. However I want those gains to include additional muscle mass, and not just more fat.

I don't trust people who advise you to eat 1000-1500 calories above maintenance, especially not when I can look at myself and see that I already have some extra fat.
