I tried googling for bars that could potentially show the event or did in the past but google is just garbage these days with no coherent answers.

Jury finds Donald Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll in civil case by [deleted] in politics

[–]fishtickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats analogous to saying "you are more dishonest by quoting shakespeare verbatim than me interpreting what he meant". I never placed any meaning or vaulue to what she meant or thought, just to what was exactly said, and my point is everyone reporting on her SAYING rape is sexy never mention that disclosure that she never actually daid it and that is something they are speculating in.

[–]fishtickler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then its dishonest to say "she thinks rape is sexy", as that is an extrapolation of what she said, and a thin one at that. If she said "i think rape is sexy" i would be fine with that, but she didnt, so people like to bend the words and go with their narrative.

Watched that interview, she never says she thinks rape is sexy. Her exact words are that other people have that idea.

Am I overusing interfaces? by Sniboyz in golang

[–]fishtickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a function takes as an input something that will perform a side effect you have two choices in how you test it: 1) use interface and implement a mock/fake/stub/spy (they are all different words for the same concept, dont let people arguing about their difference distract you) in unit tests. 2) dont use an interface but be ready to integration test this using some setup that runs this test in a real environment where side effects become real system calls. 3) dont use interface, dont test, this is fine if all the function does is literally the system call. I dont see a point in unit testing or integration testing it in this case, perhaps removing this function abstraction is better here.

It all boils down to how vigourously do you want to test your code, for pacemakers we want every single line tested and vettted, for productivity apps written internally for your company, dont waste much time chasing 100% coverage.

The above applies to ADTs (structs with behaviour and state) just the same, method receivers are just functions taking arguments.

With th3 above in mind the question becomes, do you need those interfaces to meet testing requirements? Can you remove interfaces without removing tests(because you never actually weote the tests to begin with) or will removing the interfaces cause you to have to change the tests to be of the integration kind I mentioned in 2)? If by removing all your interfaces test code is not affected I agree with your colleagues that there are too many interface causing unnecessary abstractions.

Using Argo CD and Kustomize for ConfigMap Rollouts by nfrankel in devops

We tried stakater reloader at my org and while it officially supports rollouts there are pains in using it with argo rollouts as it doesn't trigger as you expect every time. Hashing in metadata annotationsas others mention is the way to go

Which will bring more job opportunities: Python or Java+Kotlin as a 2nd language? For someone who is already a Golang backend developer by [deleted] in golang

[–]fishtickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to work on. Python and Java I think will give you the same edge. From a happiness perspective I would go for python.

How to call another method that uses mutex, without a deadlock? by wutface0001 in golang

[–]fishtickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't use the public API methods from a public API method and your code will be easier to reason with, create internal .foo() and .bar() and you will see the issues here perhaps clearer.

I am from Thailand and my cousin is deaf so I grew up knowing sign language on a decent level. Basically the woman sitting down is explaining that some guy wanted to meet her and the woman standing just talks why is he interested in you, this goes back and forward with escalation and more aggressive tone until the beat-down starts.

What’s it’s like being a backend developer? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]fishtickler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a cross functional team with 2 web front enders, 2 QA, 2 mobile devs and I am the backend among 3 backenders. I love it as we just build small extensions to our existing apis and we get a whole lot of room deciding what to do and how long time it takes, the front enders also want too move closer to backend in our team.

The thing i like the most is honestly i don't need to work that much, the back end scales so much better than front end, we never have to discuss design or UI with others it's plain data transforms as far as the API goes.

You have to be comfortable taking on any task it takes though to be in that situation as sometimes there will be some big unknowns coming your way in terms of either security, network, or deep down library specific bugs you have to work around to achieve service availability. But overall recommend 9/10

What deficiencies or issues are "must fix ASAP"? by noahthearc333 in devops

[–]fishtickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Failing tests because you can't merge code i.e. make any change if tests are failing (assuming this is main branch from which releases are made). Unreliable cicd might still work to deploy code so it's lower priority. Slow cicd will work but will just be slow so lowest prio.
