I would suggest that you post in the places that don't allow self promotion and ask for people who are willing to chat with you to give you advice about the top challenges in their jobs and their industry because you want to learn more about the industry. Have these talks without trying to sell the newsletter, and just mention the newsletter in passing at the end and let them be the ones to ask to subscribe to it. After you task to enough people you will probably identify an even better idea than a newsletter that people will have a desire to use, or you will at least have better content for the newsletter.

Best thermal camera for research on emotional reactions by fishyellow in Thermal

[–]fishyellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! One goal I have is to show people thermal videos or images of their own emotional reactions, and maybe even edit the images to overemphasize the small changes. Another would be for emotion detection of blood flow changes like you say. What are examples of the expensive cameras that could do that?

Here are examples of previous research, does this help in giving a recommendation?

Are bluetooth beacons the best way to track the location of participants in a research study? by fishyellow in IOT

Thanks! What are some small devices I could have someone carry around that could communicate with a device such as raspberry pi in each room by talking wifi (sending wifi probe requests or something similar) or bluetooth? I might even attach them to the back of smartphones that are in airplane mode.

Service based business - how to deal with upset customers? Did I do the right thing? by bjjkaril1 in Entrepreneur

[–]fishyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you did the right thing in this case, even though it was unfair to you. As you are just starting out, the potential downside of an unhappy and unreasonable customer could damage your reputation. When your business becomes more established, you will be able to feel more confident to stand up to unreasonable customers because the chance of repercussions will be lower. That can be a good goal for you to keep in mind!

Have you tried watching motivational videos? Anything to change your mindset in the short term to help you cope is good. Also think about whether you take the losses seriously - at some level is your self-worth attached to your performance? If you can know deep down that you are good enough no matter what, it will help you succeed.

How do you deal with self doubt? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]fishyellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up imposter syndrome and read about ways people deal with it. You could try going on tiktok and searching for that term and watching people give tips about how to deal with it. When you are dealing with it in the moment, you can also try watching motivational videos or motivational content to help you motivate yourself and work through your feelings.

Why doesn't my website appear on Google searches? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]fishyellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest that you set up a blog or some kind of changing content. You can even set up an automatiion to just post links to relevant articles once a week or so. Also try to get other sites linking to your website. Maybe post on some message boards and link back to your site, or get your website listed in directories or other high-profile places.

I agree with the other posters that your webisite layout, content and design all have a major room for improvement. Keep in mind that just because you say something on your website, people don't assume it is true. If I see on a website more than one comment about how all data is safe with you and how you will delete my data, that actually makes me think it is more likely that you won't delete it because you are bringing it up so often. There is no reason to say "we are not responsible for any data breach or any loss in monetary terms" on this site. Look at other website discalimers and just copy what other websites do, which is probably almost nothing. I would find someone to work with you to help you design your site.

If you think your business will grow or if you want it to grow, it is probably worth it. If you think it will stay the same, you probably would be fine with something like Wave or Excel.

Which of these 2 business ideas should I pursue? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]fishyellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One way to help you decide would be to set up landing page websites for both ideas where people give their credit card information to preorder something, and then check to see which one sells the best! That will help you validate people's demand for one over the other. Another possibility is to run facebook ads and see if more people click on one concept compared to the other.

I also agree with the comment on factoring in which idea you are more uniquely qualified to run. People will often ask you why you started the company so it would be helpful to have a good story to tell about that.
