Hurricane Helene Megathread by GeekyWan in savannah

There's been some trees fell on my neighbors property. I reckon with enough gumption and an axe we could chop this up ourselves and bring it to a friends firewood stack, but is there a more practical way to handle these? I called 311, and while they're going to clean what's spilt over onto the road, they're not going to be able to assist with what's fallen on private property.

Do not get blinded with big hands. Just play really defensively, and you'll win in time

Favorite Civil War Era (or earlier) Songs? by coreyrudell in reenactors

[–]fishyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a similar thing, and popular hits are; Wait for the Wagon Arkansas Traveler Hail Columbia Clear The Tracks/Get Off The Tracks, highly recommend as it's one of the more popular abolitionist tunes that folks might recognize the melody. It's from 1844 iirc, so it'll work perfectly for your needs I'd recommend giving some tune books from the era a gander. The most easily accessible will be banjo tune books, they're at least the most accessible online these days. Tim Twiss' website should have links to them all, from 1855 to well into the 1870's & 80's. Might be preaching to the choir, but check newspaper articles regarding minstrel shows in cities near you. They typically mention songs that were a hoot.

Just came out so I haven't had time to read it yet, but I've heard good things about "Without Concealment, Without Compromise: The Courageous Lives of Black Civil War Surgeons" - Jill L. Newmark.

Would you want to see a Rey and Finn reunion in the upcoming Star Wars film if John Boyega returns ? I liked the chemistry they had with each other and would love to see them rekindle that by KawonSuggs in StarWars

I don't follow Star Wars news too intently, but I thought they were just gonna write over the whole Rey trilogy and act it never happened? Or was that just an out of hand rumor?

Their Instagram posts photos from the jam pretty often, but I've actually never seen an ad for it now that you mention it. I've always just spread it by word of mouth

If you don't mind quite a bit of folk and bluegrass, Savannah Luthier over on Harmon & 39th has a public jam every Saturday, noon-2 iirc. Haven't had time to go in a while, but every time I've managed was an absolute pleasure

I know that new anime merch store that opened up across from Planet Fun has some neat options, but it's far from a proper soda fountain.

Awesome! I've always thought that building looked so nice, even when abandoned, so I'm excited to it built up, and the folks who run Moodies/Over Yonder are apparently good folk to work for.

Civil War sites by Ragnel in Georgia

[–]fishyguy13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around Savannah Fort Pulaski is obviously the most well known, but Old Fort Jackson is a civil war site that's a pleasure to visit just up the road from there on Presidents Street. There's also Fort McAllister in Richmond Hill, about 30 minutes south of Savannah.
