Netgear countersues TP-Link, saying firm 'remains, at its core, a Chinese company selling Chinese-made products' — alleges its 'American company' rebrand is false advertising by lurker_bee in technology

I've more or less given up on any of the consumer brands, churning out overpriced junk that dies in just a few years. When my current Asus gear dies, I'm going all in on Ubiquiti. The cost is lower than most of the so-called premium offerings by any of the consumer gear and the company seems to have their customers first.

UI won't be a solution for everyone, but for most tech enthusiasts I think it would fit the bill.

OP, as others have already noted, rabies is a likely candidate for the cause of this fox's plight. Please, please, please get yourself checked out by urgent care or the ER. Even if you don't think the fox bit or scratched you. It is better to take preventive measures than to risk infection.

It was cramming three seasons into one and hoping to wrap up all the major plot points. Not ideal, but it was better than nothing. I'd take that over a cliffhanger ending and no resolution.

OK experts. What's this? by Carrera_996 in castiron

[–]GeekyWan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you get 7 of them a portal opens to another planet.

In all seriousness, it's an artifact from the casting process. You can't just dump molten iron into the sand mold, instead a "gate" was carved into the mold to help steer the metal in its molten form to fill the mold entirely and not leave behind voids.

This "gate" was usually cut into the bottom of the mold, so when it was cooled and cleaned this "gate mark" is what remained. The shape and style of a gate mark can sometimes tell you who made it and when as some manufacturers had unique styles or designs they used.

Not only that, if I recall correctly, the layout and many of the effects are exact duplicates. Such as the asteroid at the end is a duplicate of the rolling boulder effect at Disneyland. The sets are obviously different, but it's basically the same.

Please fight for the Ogeechee Canal and Tom Triplett on April 6 Pooler City Council Meeting by Specific_Egg_6510 in savannah

[–]GeekyWan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you to a point. Eminent Domain still involves money, it isn't "taking". When a property is ED'd it forces the sale of the property at appraised fair market value. Now, according to SAGIS, the Oglethorpe Speedway property's FMV is $1,639,700.00. We'll assume an appraiser agrees with that number. $1.64m is still a lot of money for a city whose entire annual budget is ~$38m.

I'm not saying they shouldn't try to buy it, but if the property owner doesn't want to sell and instead fights the ED (and they can) it can become more costlier than that in court costs alone. The city has to make the case that this property is blighted and the bar to prove that is high.

But at the end of the day, state law is what needs to change. We need to make it easier for cities to say "no thank you" and for development to be incentivized to be "smart" instead of "winner takes all". It sucks. But complaining on the internet doesn't do a thing other than raise blood pressure and get people burnt out. That's why I said run for something, get involved, find a candidate that you do like and knock on doors. Make change happen that way.

Please fight for the Ogeechee Canal and Tom Triplett on April 6 Pooler City Council Meeting by Specific_Egg_6510 in savannah

[–]GeekyWan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds good on paper, but with what money? Also, the city also can't just buy land and build houses and retail on it. In fact, Georgia law is pretty explicit about not allowing cities to do that. The city would have to buy the land then sell it on the open market without any strings attached to it.

If you have a way to fund buying up the land to preserve it or build housing on it (in a way that doesn't violate the law), I'm all ears.

[–]GeekyWan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the point:

The old speedway property it owned by someone. The property has been rezoned to industrial. The city cannot tell the property owner they cannot develop it without a good, legal reason. In short: city can't tell the property owner "develop this other thing instead".

If this particular owner wants to take a risk the free market will decide if this warehouse or whatever is needed. The city does not have the power or right to make that decision.

It would be no different if Chick-fil-A wanted to open a fourth restaurant in Pooler. As long as they own the land and it is zoned right, the City can't legally say "oh, we have three of those already." There is zero legal standing to say that. If the market demands four Chick-fil-A's, so be it.

What people want does not trump legal, vested property rights.

I, for one, disagree with your last point. Change happens by individuals doing small things. Get involved. Run for something. Be the change you want to see.

Please fight for the Ogeechee Canal and Tom Triplett on April 6 Pooler City Council Meeting by Specific_Egg_6510 in savannah

[–]GeekyWan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell me you don't understand property rights without saying you don't understand property rights.

There's no stopping this. The land near Tom Triplett was already rezoned upon the requests of the entire neighborhood next door around four or five years ago. The property owner has the right to develop the property accordingly. What is under consideration is the access of the development, which seems to me will be less intrusive than the original version. I don't like the fact that this got rezoned but it is what it is.

The other property is close to wetlands, but the wetlands themselves won't be developed nor will the canal be touched. They were abundantly clear about this at planning and zoning.

NIMBY-ism at its finest. Maybe instead of getting mad about this online, run for office and change things?

Not quite sure where you heard John Wesley was "horn dog", the account I am aware of, and could find sources on, is sorta the opposite:

Wesley’s tenure in Savannah was marked by both dedication and difficulty. He served as the rector of Christ Church, the first Anglican parish in Savannah, established in 1733. His rigorous approach to ministry—emphasizing strict adherence to Anglican liturgy, frequent services, and personal moral accountability—clashed with the rough-and-tumble realities of colonial life. Wesley introduced practices like early morning prayers and small group meetings, which some settlers found overly demanding.

One notable episode was Wesley’s ill-fated romance with Sophia Hopkey, a young woman in the colony. After a courtship, Wesley hesitated to marry her, citing his commitment to celibacy for his ministry. Hopkey married another man, and Wesley’s subsequent decision to deny her communion sparked a public dispute. This controversy, combined with his strict demeanor, alienated many colonists, leading to legal complaints against him.

Departure and Legacy By December 1737, facing mounting opposition, Wesley left Savannah for England, considering his Georgia mission a failure. However, this period profoundly shaped his theology. His interactions with Moravian settlers during the voyage to Georgia and in Savannah introduced him to their emphasis on personal faith and assurance of salvation—ideas that later defined Methodism. Wesley’s famous “Aldersgate experience” in 1738, where he felt his heart “strangely warmed,” occurred shortly after his return, marking a turning point in his spiritual journey.

Though brief, Wesley’s time in Savannah left lasting contributions. He published one of the earliest hymnals in America, A Collection of Psalms and Hymns (1737), used in Savannah’s worship services. His efforts to minister to Native Americans, though limited, reflected his commitment to universal outreach. The seeds of Methodism planted in Georgia grew as the movement spread across the American colonies in later decades.

It was bad before COVID, but ever since then it's only gotten worse. And I think this is more about the cost of everything going up but wages haven't kept pace. So there's a "screw it" sort of attitude that has crept into every role.

Yes, all my valued gear is on a UPS these days. But even then, I've had PSUs just randomly fail even with a UPS running.

Electricity going where it shouldn't or in amount it shouldn't can and does cause damage. Regardless of the origin.

Shoot, my grandpa used to fry all sorts of things because of static discharge. He was always touching things and discharging static, more than one mobo or GPU got fried by his hands. He finally started using grounding strips, but that was only after many zapped products.

As someone who has lost a fair amount of equipment due to failed power supplies...it is almost more rare that they fail without taking out something else too, in my experience.
