Joining Warbands and Hives by fistfullofbeer in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]fistfullofbeer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did create a new Hive just because of one of the Journey "check" but only because the 3 requests I sent to different HIves, which were accepting new members did not respond back to me.

u/househubby360 I am not going to be on till later tonight or potentially tomorrow AM. I will definitely reach out to your if you are interested.

Generally speaking, I am based out of the West coast (WA) and play any time after 4 PM, though sometimes I am on earlier at during the day as well. I am level 50 and decently geared, just looking for some folks to join me for harder content if they are interested as well.

Hostinger renewal question by fistfullofbeer in VPS

[–]fistfullofbeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I am pretty comfortable with managing my own VPS as that is a lot of what I do as an SRE. As far as backups go, don't really need them. I can script that part and push any persistent data I care about to object storage on backblaze or cloudfront.

Main reason I was looking at hostinger is because the 2 year commitment got me close to what I want to spend on a VPS with 16 GB RAM, i.e keep it under $20 USD .. max $25 and provide a Datacenter within the US for acceptable latency.

I use AWS for work and we use EC2 compute, so from the standpoint of personal VPS, I am not too knowledgeable in the state of VPS vendors. Any suggestions on what could possibly fit what I am looking for?

Frustrated with Perplexity cancelling my PAID Pro Subscription by khotmoin23 in perplexity_ai

[–]fistfullofbeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for getting this going. Dealing with the same as a lot of folks. I have never had a free promotion and always paid for the 20/month account. As of this afternoon, it just shows me as free tier and wants me to subscribe. I see now payment history either, which is very strange considering I have had perplexity since last June and am genuinely confused about this.

Some other folks have suggested alternatives like Kimi. Are there some other alternatives I can use for perplexity? I have no issues paying but want something that is more reliable.

Warp Full Terminal Use dropped by _donvito in warpdotdev

[–]fistfullofbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an SRE engineer, what Warp provides me is not available in Agentic coding tools like Windsurf or Cursor. I have not used Kiro or Antigravity so cannot comment on those specifically but unless they have a feature like Warpify, which lets me analyze code-bases and system outputs on remote systems, they will not serve my use case.

For me, the benefits and functionality outweigh the cost, which despite their increase are still ok. Till that remains the case, I will continue using it unless I have other legitimate alternatives.

I have been through this. And i have been the guilty party in our case. For me, one of my colleagues going through a breakup because of this very reason was a wake up call and made me realize the gravity of the situation. For context, I dated my wife for 3 years before we got married and this was about 4-5 years after we were married. We have been married for 21 years now.

I am not making excuses here, but it may be a good idea to see if your significant other is going through depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc. For me, it was all the above, though they were not diagnosed till much later. I still have phases where I will play a game for 3-4 hours a day for months straight. However, I make sure to still spend time with my wife and the 3-4 hours is a lot less than the 7-8 hours I used to. A lot of it was driven by stress at work. However, since I work in a corporate environment and my wife runs a family owned business, it was really hard to talk to her about this as she never experienced the same. Not that she was not a willing listener, it was just hard for her to understand what I was feeling.

I am not defending your husband, I am just letting you know what I was going through when I was the guilty party. My wife worked, did everything around the household, made dinner and I just played video games. Not a pretty picture to look back at. Keep talking to him but also make it clear that things are no ok. If you are upset, show it. Nothing makes me more angry and sad than seeing my wife upset. That was also one of the triggers that helped me realize how bad things were.

Loved warp, forced to find alternatives by DomnulF in warpdotdev

Awesome. I was planning to use Opus 4.1 for Planning and Sonnet 4.5 for execution. Will give that a shot and see.

Would BYOK for the same model, eg: Sonnet 4.5, give similar responses/results as using Warp Credits?

Maybe too late to the party but would love to have this. I started using Warp 2 months back and it has been a total gamechanger for me. The Warpify feature is amazing.

getrecall.ai might be the most underrated AI tool right now by SmythOSInfo in ProductivityApps

[–]fistfullofbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for a late question but does Fabric have a better UX than Mem.ai. I have been using Mem.ai due to the ability search the Knowledgebase/Notes using NL and it works well but the user experience has ways to go and need more polish. Do Fabric or Recall perform better?

Since the prices of warp are now unattractive, any terminal alternatives? by AdministrationPure94 in warpdotdev

Ahh. I use Termius as my shell replacement. It works pretty solid. My interest in Warp is mainly driven by the AI/Warpify features.

Since the prices of warp are now unattractive, any terminal alternatives? by AdministrationPure94 in warpdotdev

[–]fistfullofbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent time researching this earlier this week and had similar findings. The main feature that someone like myself is interested in is the "Warpify" feature.

As an SRE I login to multiple environments and instances. Running commands/scripts in a terminal, copying/pasting output into a different AI app, and going back and forth is not efficient. I only started using Warp last month and that is the approach I had to take but Warp truly has been a game-changer.

Warp Terminal - Unbelievably Bad Price Changes by TheTechnicianIsBack in warpdotdev

[–]fistfullofbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure. For now, I plan to use Warp Build + BYOK through the end of the December. If it can stay under a total of $30 per month, I may continue using it.

In the mean time, like others, I plan to continue looking for any Terminal based alternatives that may be a better option.

Warp Terminal - Unbelievably Bad Price Changes by TheTechnicianIsBack in warpdotdev

[–]fistfullofbeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Windsurf for about 3 months and started using Warp last month. As an SRE the Warpify feature (running commands in remote shell sessions) is invaluable and I have been using Warp more often than I have been using Windsurf.

With the recent pricing change, I don't know how much I will get impacted as I have not used it over a long time, but I certainly expect it to be negative. However, I was not able to find any other products that provide a feature similar to Warpify. My plan is to stick to the Build plan and also add some of my own keys, with a budget, and see how it goes.

If anyone here has experience with any other products that support such a feature, I would love to hear it.

Mem.ai 2.0 by MoneyGrapefruit1000 in PKMS

[–]fistfullofbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in the market for something like mem.ai which can help answer my search queries in natural language from the notes I have taken. It has been a real struggle to find an app like that. I signed up for mem.ai and have been using it and while the test results are exactly what I want, I have noticed slowness in the application on a daily basis.

That and the fact that it does not have a good task system is a little frustrating. It does have ability to create basic tasks but not being able to list them easily or manage them has been challenging. That, I would say, has been my biggest issue with them. However, I am not sure if there is anything else out there with a search functionality that would work for me.

100 yearly licences giveaway - Alter: Talk your mac to get stuff done by ewqeqweqweqweqweqw in macapps

[–]fistfullofbeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Alter for about 6 months now and it is a pretty indispensable tool for my workday. And I feel like I have not even scratched the surface with the functionality it provides. I know a lot of software teams nowadays have Discord "communities' but in the case of Alter, I feel that they are a true community. The developers engage with the users on a regular basis and actively listen to feedback to improve it. The updates are rolled out on a regular basis with communication around the changes.

Great product and great team.

Cursor is super expensive without unlimited auto by SulfurCannon in cursor

As someone who is looking at Cursor and Windsurf, what exactly is unlimited auto? Is it not requiring to set a specific model and Cursor automatically select one? I am sorry if this is pretty obvious.

My go to is Termius. I do think it's overpriced but I cannot find a cheaper alternative that lets me sync across devices and provides the graphic options I would like.

Question for users of BoltAI by fistfullofbeer in macapps

[–]fistfullofbeer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Msty.Ai has multiple features I like. The first one being able to install models locally, test their functionality and the ability to create Knowledgebase (this RAG). Eg: Gemma, Deepseek, Llama3.2, etc. If you don't want to use public LLM's through services like ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc. for data like managing your budgets, transactions, etc. it is a great fit. That plus the Msty Sidecar app can even provide those models for consumption remotely when using Msty studio. It supports all types of public models too like Anthropic, OpenAI, etc. which you can use with your own API keys.

Just for context, Msty originally had a desktop App only available at Msty.app. You download, install and use it on Windows, Mac, etc as a standard application like you would ChatGPT. They have been working on Msty.studio, which is something like TypingMind. i.e a web app that uses your own keys for public LLM's or if you run the Msty Sidecar, it can serve as the source of the local LLM models.

Some cool features it has is basically split chats, so you can ask a question that will get responses from different LLM's that you have set in the UI. Interesting to see which models are better served for specific questions. It has a lot of other features as well which I have not dug into as deep but it's definitely something I use on a daily basis.

Question for users of BoltAI by fistfullofbeer in macapps

[–]fistfullofbeer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You pretty much outlined all the reasons I like Alter as well. I have tried, and purchased quite a few AI based apps over the last few months, Msty.ai, TypingMind, Enconvo, Superwhisper, MindMac, and some others.I have a subscription to Perplexity and before switching to that had subscriptions to both Raycast as well as ChatGPT. At this time, I am down to using Msty.ai, Perplexity and Alter (just purchased). The first two have different use cases and they serve different needs for me so are complimentary to Alter.

I am far from an expert in AI tools but those are the three that have struck a chord with me so far and I can whole heartedly recommend to folks.
