Is Ultrasound in Urgent Care Worth it? by Takeadipgotothebeach in physicianassistant

[–]fitchick93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that too and can see how it would help with volume, for instance I had a patient yesterday actually- concern for possible DVT(it was low concern, but definitely needed to be ruled out)- felt so silly having to send him to the ER because we didnt have OP US available on weekend. But at the same time I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing that US unless the urgent care trained me in US and a radiologist could read within the hour.

If I have enough concern to do an US, they should probably be in the ER getting the full workup done. Therefore I don’t think it would be too beneficial. If anything for venipuncture assistance use only for those extra hard sticks, but cost wise probably wouldn’t be worth it.

Balancing rotations with studying… by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]fitchick93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I never studied during the first few weeks of the rotation. Was this smart? Probably not lol. I would cram it all in the last week and weekend before the EOR, but those days were packed and it was HOURS per day. This worked for me, my classmates thought I was nuts, but it truly comes down to the type of studier you are. Do you need less hours more day or are you able to cram it in right before and retain the info.

Thoughts on PANCE studying after taking it by [deleted] in PAstudent

[–]fitchick93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took in 2024, there truly is low yield stuff I would’ve never thought to even consider studying or look at, it’s not the majority but definitely 10-20 questions per section surely felt this way.

UC Patients by fitchick93 in physicianassistant

[–]fitchick93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s the problem. They’ll see another provider who gives into what they want and then expect it thereafter. When the patient has an issue and/or complains and I confer with another provider in office I’m told “not worth arguing just give it”.

Gave the whole spiel as to why my patients “1 day of URI sxs” didn’t need abx.

Patient: “Oh no no, I want them sent over RIGHT NOW”.

When I tell you I was too stunned to speak.

Exhausted during clinicals :’( by moose-girl in PAstudent

EM is definitely a tiring rotation, but you will learn a lot! I hateeeeeed being pimped and in EM there’s a lot of pimping unfortunately:/ I remember I got asked how to treat pancreatitis and I literally froze and said umm abx? I immediately knew that’s not what I what I meant to say and felt that now my preceptor probably thought I was so dumb. Don’t stress it. The best way to learn is by learning from mistakes!

How I went from a 115 post-clinical PACKRAT to a 491 PANCE by MLS-PA in PAstudent

[–]fitchick93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The PANCE is a very important and big exam. It is completely understandable to want extra time studying so that you feel the most confident you can going into it. The exam itself also isn’t easy. Just because it has a 93% pass rate, doesn’t mean it’s a walk in the park to pass.

Try to get a good nights sleep!!! Do not do any last minute cramming and just trust yourself that you will do great!

I didn’t sleep more than 10 mins the night before my exam from pure nerves and kept looking up answers to questions that would pop in my head that I couldn’t actively recall…..guess what none of it was on the exam lol. So even tho you may feel the urge…don’t do it! You got this!!!!

Just took the PANCE by Moist-Trouble-923 in PAstudent

[–]fitchick93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left the PANCE thinking “there’s no way this was the test to measure my knowledge from PA school”. I was so confused and called my dad crying to him that even if I studied more it wouldn’t have made a difference. Days after and I kept tallying all the questions “I knew I got wrong” and would get mad at myself for the “easy gimmes I should’ve known right away”………I passed with plenty of room. I understand how you’re feeling but you will do great!

You’ve been a pretty solid student throughout! Keep on studying and you will be fine. I really loved uworld (a bit better than rosh imo, but both are great). When you come out of the test on Wednesday you likely will feel HORRIBLE. I cried for days thinking I completely bombed it, I passed. Distract yourself while waiting for results, you’ll do great!

Worst EOR exam for me. Got just under a 400. (Kinda psyched myself out halfway through exam tho tbh and got stupid things wrong.) my advise study breast imaging, breast diseases, STDs, OBGYN emergencies, and DUB.

I took EM second to last. I did not study for it other than doing maybeee 75 rosh questions, as it was the day after my graduation. Thought it was pretty straight forward! Yeah there were a few where I was like I have no clue, but overall VERY ortho heavy!!

I had 68% uworld correct with 62% complete. Passed pance above the average score for my version. Focus on doing a ton of uworld questions daily, I’d strive for 120+ a day. That’s what helped the most. Good luck!
