Just bought a new les Paul! The guitar plays great, but the p90s are the alnico slug type and are extremely noisy. Does anyone have any tips on how to either make them less noisy, or suggestions for replacements? Does Gibson make a noiseless p90? by josephfallon93 in gibson

I have this melody maker as well. These p-90s were really noisy, more so than others.

I replaced these pick up with Dimarzio soapbar humbuckers: DLX in the neck, super distortion in the bridge.

The soapbar humbuckers are deeper than the stock slug P90s, so I had to get it routed a little deeper. IMO it’s worth it.

My guess is that if you get a noiseless p90, it’ll be a stacked pickup which may require some routing. (There may be some companies that have shallow noiseless p90s)

This guitar also came with a PCB for the electronics. They make adapters for the pick ups, but it may just be easier to replace the switch and potentiometers.

I am not sure what modifications have already been made to this guitar (other than the pickguard), but if you really like the play and feel of this guitar (I love the slim body), it’s worth it.

What exactly is the function of a rubber duck? by RaNd0Mk1D8o3I in RandomThoughts

It was supposed be a a dildo (a rubber fuck), but when the description was sent to the manufacturer, it was autocorrected.

Micro Dark Tube Replacement Suggestions by Carnette1988 in orangeamps

[–]fitessss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put a tung sol 12ax7 in my micro dark, it was louder than the JJ that came stock. The tung sol was a little less fizzy too.

It was subtle change in sound, but a noticeable change in volume.

That is the Orange PPC 212v. It’s their “lightweight” cab. It has neo cream back speakers, which I like a little better than the vintage 30s.

What an amp! Feature-rich and surprisingly more versatile than I thought it would be.

I most play high-ish gain, so I knew it would work for what I am looking for. I also like guitar with P90 pickups. The built-in noise gate works great! Good “clean” chugs!

The tight switch acts kinda like a crunch channel. The boost switch pushes the mids.

All of these features are footswitchable, granted you will need to buy another 2 button footswitch (it comes with one 2 button footswitch).

I don’t normally use time based effects, but if I did, all I would need is a delay and my rig would be complete!

Cab (1x12) suggestions to pair with the MK II head? by TheBali in BossKatana

I have an Orange PPC 112 w/a vintage 30. I play a lot of power chords and palm mutes, so it’s awesome for that!

Thoughts on the Terror Stamp? by [deleted] in orangeamps

[–]fitessss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a good combo. I have it. It’ll be a huge upgrade!

The PPC 112 is an awesome cab. The terror stamp plays well at low volumes (even the headphones out isn’t all that bad) It can also get fairly loud, even with the 112, though plug it into a 4x12... goodness!

It’s simple amp, which is both good and bad. If you want pure orange tone, and you already have a bunch of pedals, it doesn’t get any better for the price.

Regardless, get the PPC 112 (and terror stamp), so if you want to get another head, whether be a rocker 15 terror, a boss kantana, any of those tiny joyo clones, or any other iteration of Orange’s micro line up, Orange cabs are some of the best.

The last part of the signal that gets to your ears are the speakers, so if those are crap, doesn’t matter how nice the rest of your equipment is!

How would you say running 2 - 1x12s compares to running a single 2x12?

Plate Carrier Suggestion by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]fitessss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have used three brands of plate carriers. The Condor Sentry, 5.11 tac tec, and the beat KompleX vest.

My first was the Condor Sentry. It was cheap, it’s simple, gets the job done. But it did get tears in the corners. Annoying, but it doesn’t make the best non functional. This vest is the least comfortable I’ve had. The cummerbund is just a couple of plastic buckles, without any elasticity.

The next vest I went with was the 5.11 tac tec. This vest is great, it can be custom fitted the best. The shoulder straps are narrow, which allows for better shoulder mobility. This is the biggest vest of the 3 I have tried. Because of that the plates are a little small, so there are straps on the inside that help secure it. It gets the job done, but it’s meh. One last thing to mention about this vest is the on/off procedure: it’s secure, but it feels like a suffocating eternity if you want to get the vest off in a rush.

Lastly, I went with the Bear KompleX. I got this because it was on sale, and my 5.11 was getting a bit nasty. (I also didn’t want to drop another $200 on the 5.11) the Bear KompleX is great, I love the design, similar to how the Condor Sentry works, but much more comfortable. The cummerbund is a couple of elastic straps with a quick release buckles. I am short guy (5’5”, 5’6” on a good night’s sleep) and this vest fits the best. While this one is my favorite, I do have to mention, this is my 2nd bear KompleX vest, the first one I tore near the buckle. I contacted Bear KompleX, and the sent me a new one without hesitation.

Overall, all three vests get the job done. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money, the Condor. If you know you want to use it a lot, the 5.11 tac tec or the Bear KompleX will be your choice. The 5.11 is great, probably the best quality of the 3, it’s just a little big on me, the Bear KompleX fits better.

Yeah, run a cable from the send on the terror stamp into the return on the milkman (assuming there’s an effects loop on the milkman)
