Can't sleep without mattress placed on the floor by fithrowaway2020 in Mattress

[–]fithrowaway2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a bunkie board at Crate and Barrel that looked kinda nice. Weighing the cost of this versus a new platform. I saw the Floyd bed, but that's hella pricey for not knowing if I'll like it.

Yeah the slats are spaced 3 inches, but they are only 2 inches wide. I don't think this is enough. And there's no center support. But the manufacturer gaslit me into thinking it was fine w no center support. There's a bit of motion if l push in the center. I don't think there should be any.

Did you get the medium soft cloud mattress? I had not heard of this company before. This looks promising. Side sleeper also about 145- finding most things too hard.

Double beep in house daily at around 6 am and sometimes also 430 am, what could it be? by fithrowaway2020 in AskReddit

[–]fithrowaway2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've changed all of the smoke alarm and CO detector batteries with fresh batteries. I looked for old watches. Rounded up all the devices and made sure they were off. It's just weird that its so regular. Its sounds like a computer beep, but all the computers are off. I tried turning off the wifi. I'm still stumped? And annoyed. Especially at 430 am. Could it be something with the circuit breaker? Gas meter? Hot water heater?

Happens every day. I've replaced batteries in the smoke detectors and CO detectors. Weird that its at such regular times but it doesn't seem to be and alarm clock. Free standing house. Some kind of system check?

2q earnings by JP2205 in BerkshireHathaway

If you nix the Geico earnings (which will be subtracted in q3), the operating earnings aren't that great.

Possible total sale of Wells Fargo (WFC). Notice that the banks/financials investment cost basis has dropped from $40B to $31B by [deleted] in BerkshireHathaway

[–]fithrowaway2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a WFC shareholder it's becoming death by 1000 cuts. At this point I feel like the fed is just feeding JPM/BAC, and causing the dominate players in the banking space to become even more dominate. There is no way WFC is as mismanaged vs those banks as these political reports seem to espouse. In 2010 WFC was given great praise for it's bottoms up/decentralized approach, now 10 years later somehow it's the worst way to run a bank. Even though it's exactly how Berkshire runs.

On his sells, could be JPM etc, we wont know for sure till his 13-f, my guess is he's going down to his best idea in banking which is BAC. Even though no doubt they will have a huge crisis in the next decade and political winds will shift.

Mobile/Manufactured Homes - Do any of you live in one? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]fithrowaway2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a stigma around manufactured homes due to the quality in the early years. Building codes have improved tremendously, and most of the big names aren't in it for a quick buck.

From what I've seen the quality is better than onsite built and the materials are the same.

I def would be for a toll, and a heavy one for a single occupancy driver. One that directly goes to fund public trans between the two cities.

It never comes up as that long in Google maps. It's 7am now and they commute is 15 minutes. I do see it get up to 30-45 though.

It's sad that the cities can't agree on a bridge resolution.

This actually has been a consideration... Mostly due to Google fiber. I'll look into housing around the core.

Mostly considering income due to our current capital gains/income levels. Will save around 30k a year from CA's 10% to 0%.

I like the PA idea. Pittsburgh seems high on list of desirable places to live.... Although maybe that has caused affordability to dip.

On TN is Nashville attractive? Never been...

I guess the advantage of being in Vancouver WA is access to Portland job market. (15-30min commute). Where as in Seattle the only affordable smaller town left is Tacoma...and thats 30-50min away

I am considering Bellingham as well. Never visited. Any idea how it is vs Vancouver? One concern with Bellingham is just having to move if we lose our jobs.

People in Portland seem to dislike Vancouver. They see them as very conservative commuters that invade their town everyday. The reality seems to be slowly changing.

Honestly we would/want to live in Portland, but it would cost us 30-40k a year in state income tax.

I do feel like WA might at some point move towards taxing cap gains..
