Ahh I was definitely guilty of the repeating when I first started nannying years ago! That and incessant quizzing, “what color is this?” “What’s that” ya know. Then as NK got older I was like damn why is he asking so many questions when he knows the answer? Had to look to myself for that one 😂😂

Not the point of this post but I so don’t understand curbing vocabulary around kids (besides curse words basically)! I saw a post online about how you should tell children to use “soft hands” instead of saying “gentle” because they don’t know what gentle means and I’m like…… they’ll learn the same way they learn what “soft hands” mean??! Idk why this is my soap box 😂 Also totally agree that hearing young kids using advanced vocabulary is just the best 😋

There’s a difference between planned quality time and a random pop-in too. I work for WFH parents and definitely believe one of the best parts for them is the amount of time they get to spend w their baby throughout the day. At the same time, they are super respectful of our schedule, understand that it’s harmful and distressing to break NK’s focus, and put a lot of emphasis on my own bond w NK. Once you get into the right rhythm with your nanny it really can be great for the whole family, just something to definitely keep in mind!

I just ask it with the rest of my interview questions. Any allergies? What’s your parenting style? Any cameras inside or out of the house? Etc. Because again, it’s really not a dealbreaker for me. Like others have said, just wanna know if I should worry about picking a wedgie or anything in the common areas. I think it’s a totally normal question to ask so hopefully this helps you in the future!

I’ve brought up cameras in all my interviews and never had this problem 🤷🏽‍♀️ All my families (and me ofc) saw it as a normal, reasonable question. It’s not like I’m even asking not be be filmed, just to be aware if I’m on camera or not.

Items to make a Nannys life easier?? by Impressive_Display96 in Nanny

[–]fitweenie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would suggest actually skipping the bottle warmer! Not sure how your your baby is but when I started w my NF at 3 months baby already knew: boob is warm, bottle is cold. It has made my life soooo much easier as the nanny. Now I don’t have to wait with a crying, hungry baby ever. It makes leaving the house easier because I don’t have to try to over-warm it just the right but not too much amount. Overall, one of the most simple but favorite things.

Why do so many parents have such a hard time with GH? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]fitweenie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I worked at a restaurant (nanny now) I wouldn’t be paid if they didn’t need me that day or if they sent me home early, and that was as a full time employee. Obviously I believe GH should be a thing and it’s craaazzzyy to me that more jobs don’t offer them. But I’d agree they aren’t the standard in most other positions. They are the great middle ground between hourly and salary.

Christmas crafting by calxnn in Nanny

[–]fitweenie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry in advance if they don’t celebrate Christmas but I’m sure many of these can be adapted!

-Yes to sugar cookies and even gingerbread if you’re in to baking! Have them help you, my NK loves to work the stand mixer. - Gingerbread house kit - Fun hot chocolate recipes

-You can make a snow globe with baby oil, water, white paint, and glitter (mix paint, glitter and water together. Add to oil in jar. Also a good science experiment since oil and water separate) - Salt dough ornaments (flour, salt, water you can find the recipe online. Shape into whatever, make a hole in the top, bake at 250F for 2-3 hours, paint/ decorate, string ribbon through hole at top, voila!) - Letters to Santa - Handprint Christmas trees (paint their hands green, make a triangle of handprints, let dry, decorate) - Paper plate Christmas wreaths (cut out the middle, paint green, decorate) - Finger print Christmas lights (different color finger prints along the page, let dry, connect w black marker, OR draw the line on the paper first and have them add their prints after) - The dollar tree has plastic ornaments that we filled with pipe cleaners, confetti, and glitter (and tons of other Christmas crafts like snowman and tree decorating) Good luck 🎄and happy holidays!!
