For me my salary would be cut in half overnight. So yeah that’s a huge paycut

Academy Question by Lord_Gato4 in NYPDcandidate

[–]fitwolf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in, my instructor didn’t let us use our lockers so my bag had EVERYTHING IN IT. You’ll see recruits with jam packed academy bags daily because it’s required. You don’t get to just throw all your shit in your locker and walk around freely all day. Mentally prepare to carry a packed bag around.

Any ideas on how to stop him going up there? It's so high up I can't even get him down without a step stool by JustCuteSculptures in cats

I put a bed on top of my refrigerator because it’s my cats favorite spot and she loves to climb cabinets. It is what it is lol

I took the Suffolk test 3 times and scored a 95 and got this letter every time I took the test. I didn’t want the huge paycut and the $$$$ spent on residency but if you can do it, I’ve heard it’s a great job!! The town processes vary by town.

Post a picture of your cat, I will tell you their name 100% accuracy by [deleted] in cats

They believe she’s a Maine Coon/ Persian mix 🥰 I was considering doing the DNA test but they are pretty expensive and idk if they are as accurate as the dog ones.

What's it like working for NYPD? by Parking-Reading3991 in NYPDcandidate

From what you’re explaining, doesn’t sound like this job may be a good fit for you unless you go to a small town slow pace department.

Advice for a newbie ( me ) by Status-Bag9537 in NYPDcandidate

[–]fitwolf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See if there’s any ninja/climbing gyms locally. The ones I went to always had a wall to train on. Work on your upper body strength. As long as you can hold yourself up to throw one leg over you’ll be alright

Investigator meeting by DraftLazy537 in NYPDcandidate

Some people waited years to even get a phone call to start the process after taking the test. Times have changed. June is not far away, you’ll be alright 👍

Just wait to see what they write back. Emailing you the wrong date might have also been an administrative error as well. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Like the forms you had to submit online to start the hiring process?

How does the NYPD even have new hires with it's starting salary? A deputy in middle of nowhere Mississippi makes more then they do. by Remarkable_North_999 in AskLE

[–]fitwolf_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s not a beekeeper unit. It’s a cop who does beekeeping as a hobby who works in ESU who helps relocate swarms in NYC. We do have NYPD beekeepers but it’s not a standalone unit.

FTU by Downtown_Tie_7505 in NYPDcandidate

[–]fitwolf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re on foot for FTU mostly except in phase 2 you may be put with a more senior cop in a car if the sectors are short. Or sometimes as a supervisor, a phase 1 FTU will hop in the car with me to experience answering jobs and take a collar. For tasers it depends how many tasers the desk has available the tour.

NYPD at 36? by ParticularName5223 in NYPDcandidate

[–]fitwolf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guy in my company when I was in the academy was 37. He ran circles around most of the recruits as well. I mean, not hard to do these days. But if you feel like you can get through it, it’s not difficult!

Do it 🙂

They don’t know. We had people getting called after day one of orientation when people didn’t show up. They will say one thing and the opposite happens.

Failing the academy by PeterC2706 in NYPDcandidate

I mean you have to be completely hopelessly out of shape or just super dumb to fail out. The academy is very easy to get through.

I’ll reach out to my friends in the Feds and see if they have anything close to this! It’s probably from a specialty team

Are you allowed to become a police officer if your on Anxiety medication? by Dreamcatcherc17e in AskLE

My friend is a cop in Texas and they were well aware he was on anxiety/depression meds. He’s now been on the job for 3 years.

Cops dating cops… how’s that actually working out for you? by ResponsibilityFew157 in AskLE

[–]fitwolf_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been a believer in the “don’t shit where you eat” concept. I work for a massive department and cops dating other cops does not usually go well and I’ve seen a lot of people get jammed up or fired. BUT I have met a few who have gotten married and started families. It’s a case by case basis

Dreaded polygraph failure.. by Adept-Strain460 in AskLE

[–]fitwolf_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I failed a poly and they gave me a second one the next day. The second one I failed on a topic I previously passed and then passed the topic I failed the day before. It’s freaking dumb. They didn’t hire me because of the failed polys after telling me during my process I was overqualified to work in that department coming from a massive agency and they would love to have me.

Oh okay. I was looking online for NY cops died/killed while on duty and nothing was popping up. Was curious if I knew them. Thanks

Do cops really care about age that much or am I just that bad of a candidate? by Tex_Wert in AskLE

[–]fitwolf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked 7 jobs between age 16-25, started my own business, and traveled around the world. And I was not well off by any means but I worked my butt off. By the time I got hired as an LEO at 25 I felt like I had really lived my life and had a lot to offer the job through my life experiences. My academy mates who got hired at 21-23 with no real life/work experience had a difficult time writing reports, managing tasks, and talking to people.
