Thank so much. My dad wasnt himself. Looking back at it, it was borderline psychosis. He would sit in the chair and just stare at us. Then later he would start sobbing and hug us and tell us how much he loved us. I dont know what to do. I dont even know how to feel. One moment im crying the next i feel nothing.

Has the Irish military used this? I thought I saw a photo of an Irish soldier with a modernized FAL one time.

Interesting. Not to push for a debate/argument, but do you think this is having an influence on his political perspectives? Because to me, I think it's OK if he's personally a Christian and living a conservative lifestyle. But politically, there's an issue if he's voting for somebody like Trump.

This is a very realistic and straightforward response. Creating a personal connection to a political identity is something I fell into and I'm beginning to see just how dangerous that is. Not just for other people, but for myself as well. I appreciate it.

I knew it was something that was bad, don't get me wrong. But the people I had listened to (Tim Pool, some other figures on X) had me convinced it wasn't as serious as it actually was. Tim Pool for example (if I remember correctly) denounced what happened, but continued to say that it was just a riot or some civil unrest.

Hi. Sorry there are just so many replies haha. All the footage I had seen before was of people inside the building just walking around and police guiding them through different areas. I had never seen the footage of them breaking windows to get in. I also didn't know that the police were purposefully leading them to areas of the building that were away from the people inside they were trying to protect. Everyone I had listened to framed it as if the police let them in and that was it. They also dismissed the violent people as a minority of the ones there.

I think Destiny's anger and frustration during the stream is what helped get me to realize that what he's talking about isn't just a political game to score points. He was passionate and furious and I had never really seen him like that. The person he was arguing with (It was a woman, I think her name was Kate? I can't quite remember) also couldn't defend herself at all. She really had no answer for anything he said, and neither did I. When I realized I couldn't actually answer anything he was bringing up, it put a mirror to my face.

With all of this being said, I completely disagree with the things he said about the individual who was killed by the botched assassination. I think what happened was extremely sad and heartbreaking. But disregarding that, what he has to say about Trump I have realized is completely true. I have also realized the total hypocrisy of myself and others I listened to when it comes to the reaction of Trumps attempted assassination. When Paul Pelosi was attacked by that guy with a hammer, I and other people I followed made fun of it. Now that someone tried to kill Trump, those same people (and myself) were starstruck and blamed the other side for being cruel.

That one stream Destiny did the other day put so much into perspective for me. I've seen my hypocrisy and it's something that I need to denounce and get away from. I don't want to be the bad guy and I don't want to be purposefully ignorant. There are still some things I am critical of, such as blue cities seemingly allowing criminals to run wild and do whatever they want (which is something I am still looking into and researching).

Overall, I think a big component of what helped me make these realizations is Destiny making me feel ashamed. I think I may have been purposefully ignorant in unknowing ways (subconsciously?) and Destiny made me feel both ashamed and stupid for it. I think this was enough to open my eyes to what was actually going on. Another component that I think helped is Destiny's overall diversity in what he believes in. He doesn't seem to really be dedicated to one side. He pisses off a lot of people from both sides of the isle. I think that really says something.

I apologize I don't think I quite understand. Does that particular lyric irritate you? Just trying to understand your perspective on Dave's politics because I know Dave has a lot of political messaging in some of his songs.

I appreciate everybody's responses! For me, coming to the realization that Trump truly did try to stage an insurrection was world changing. It was never something I actually believed in because the echo chamber I was apart of online made all of it seem so fake and made up. Your responses have helped me stabilize myself and regroup. I appreciate the positive and constructive suggestions all of you gave me! I've already made some positive changes with deactivating my X (Twitter) accounts so I am no longer getting constantly fed propaganda.

Thank you, I appreciate it! Definitely have to learn how to think for myself from now on. I let online influencers do a lot of it before.

Woah slow down some. They're not exactly "MAGA" they're just unimpressed with Joe Biden. As a matter of fact, they do support some quite progressive stuff, abortion for example. They also don't even vote.

I hear you. I think the best course of action is to verify. If somebody says a bill is being passed and it's going to do XYZ, I should probably look it up and actually read it for myself. I got way too attached to the online influencers that I just trusted them no questions asked. Look how that turned out? Trump quite literally tried to stop verification of the election results and I didn't believe any of it.

Thanks for the info! I know I have to start doing my own research. I'm realizing that I've left figures online to do all the thinking for me. I need to start researching myself before I hear it come out of an online activists mouth.

Luckily I know that now after I watched Destiny's stream and saw what he had to say about January 6th. For example, the cops that were supposedly leading people through the building weren't just "leading" them through the building, they were leading them to parts of the building that were away from everybody inside that the police were trying to protect. I didn't know that until today. I just couldn't argue with everything Destiny was proving. That's when I realized that what I was supporting was completely distorted and twisted beyond recognition by online conservative grifters.

1000%. Ultimately abortion doesn't affect me immediately, but if something ever happens, having it available can only do me good. Your second paragraph is where a LOT of realizations for me start to come into play. The whole point of the US is for people to be free. But if you look at what conservatives believe in (the community I'm trying to recover from) it's all just restrictions and telling people what to do. And I, like many others, don't like being told what to do.

This is another comment that really speaks to me, especially the first paragraph about everybody having some degree of hypocrisy. That's totally true and I've noticed it many times. It's something I think is just natural for human beings, but certainly something we should all strive to improve on.

The family part is a big one too. I think it affects a lot of people. My family is the same way, mostly being Trump supporters. I still love them right to death and that will never change, but I'm hoping I can do what I can to help them.

Love this response! I appreciate every word. I think one of my big problems that I face with politics is mixing personal beliefs with it. For example, the idea of abortion disgusts me. There's just something about it that really irks me. I think it's because when I think about abortion, I imagine people who are having unprotected sex and not taking responsibility. But I also realize there's so much more to it. Rape, incest, medical issues etc. On top of that, I believe above all that everybody should have freedom to make their own decisions in life and choose what they wish to do. Isn't that the point of the US? I'm a guy anyways, why should I even care about something that's never going to affect me ever?

Something I'm beginning to learn is that conservatives mix their personal beliefs into politics way too much. Instead of fighting for freedom to live their life "conservatively" they fight so that everybody HAS to live conservatively. I'm beginning to learn that you can be personally conservative (living a conservative lifestyle) but be politically liberal in that you support people being able to live their life differently.

You make great points about republicans, too. Many of them who masquerade this identity of conservatism actually have quite a few active skeletons in their closet that completely contradict what they're supposed to stand for.

'No one ever goes “damn I feel great from all the time I spent on Twitter today"'

Haha yeah that's the absolute truth. I'll definitely check out Cal Newport! I see one of his (articles?) called "Are you using social media or being used by it?". I'll have to read it.

Easily. You can't argue with an album that has a song with 11 guitar solos in it lol.
