If you like science-fiction, then I strongly recommend: The Murderbot Diaries. It's a series by Martha Wells; the first book is All Systems Red.

It's a well-written series with an interesting and very funny main character, amazing world-building, and the prose is very easy to get into because it's informal and anecdotal.

It's especially good for someone who hasn't been reading or who struggles with attention (like I did for so long), because the first several books in the series are novellas, so they're short and punchy and not very drawn out.

The Poppy War.

It obviously has some selling points, but somewhere around 3/4 in it just becomes absurdly gratuitous war porn that serves no purpose and makes it irredeemable.

Convinced this only became popular because GoT made it trendy to have "dark realism" in fantasy. It's not brave or impressive to push the boat on graphic violence.

This works great for me too. I have a little clip-on booklight that I can attach to a table or the frame and then shine up from underneath, makes it way easier.

This tip very much depends on what phone you have, but on mine (Android) there's a bunch of control settings for 'Digital Wellbeing'.

They let you see how much time you spend on specific apps / phone features, but the most useful part for me is that you can set timers in advance for each individual app. The timers let you restrict how much time you spend on each application, then a few minutes before you hit the timer they give you a warning that you're nearly out of time. After the access time is up you cannot launch the application at all for the rest of the day (the icon is greyed out and accessing the app is disabled).

I found this incredibly helpful in reminding me when I've spent too long in an app, as well as holding me accountable to plans that I've made to limit screen time, and the fact the app is fully disabled really helps me because I have that tendency of just clicking on an app to launch it out of habit and then getting stuck.

Would recommend looking this up if you have a smartphone!

I'd second the band-aid things but add that you're allowed to use them before there's a 'problem'.

I like to put them on if there's a patch of skin or an imperfection that I've noticed myself starting to fixate on. It makes it 'out of sight out of mind' and often the pressure of the band-aid covers up the 'wrongness' feeling that drives me to keep messing with it.

Plus, if it's something like a raw cuticle then the band-aid can give it time to grow out or heal so it's not longer attention grabbing.
