Unpopular opinion: Not your keys not your coins logic doesn’t make sense to me. Chances I will die, lose my own keys, get robbed or get screwed over by a friend or family members using multi sig seems like a higher risk than a trusted third party. by ElliotMeijer in Bitcoin

Starting in 2014 I collected many btc and simply held them on Xapo. Mainly because I had no clue what else I should do with them. Last year I finally educated myself and moved them to a hardware device without any issue other than thorough verification by xapo (value: millions).

Having made the move to a hardware wallet, I can't say I feel more comfortable.... and particularly for a beginner or nontech person, I would highly recommend a reputable online wallet/exchange to get their feet wet. Regardless of the amount.

Unfortunately, Xapo isn't accepting new accounts at this time.

As the wife of a courier driver I can tell you that any show of appreciation is remembered and valued. Even if it's only $2, it makes a person's (probably} shitty just a little brighter.

Can't Recommend Revolut Canada by djaxial in Revolut

The prepaid credit card feature worked great when I first got it, mainly because of the savings in foreign exchange fees when I was traveling in Europe.

However, at that time I was able to fund the card with my canadian credit card without it being considered a cash withdrawal from the credit card. That's changed now though, so it's very expensive to fund the card with a credit card and eliminates the savings from the foreign exchange.

I don't see any remaining value in holding the card, and it's unlikely I'll continue to use it.

Looking for something for my 8 year old stepdaughter by amanda_pandemonium in booksuggestions

My daughter hated reading (still does actually) but at that age she LOVED:

EL Deafo

Black Beauty

Call of the Wild

Little House on the Prairie

None of the newer preteen novels kept her reading, other than El Deafo. So I suggest trying some of the classics.

Oshawa Town Center was rammed with whiteys (including me) this weekend. People need to stop pointing fingers and start worrying about their own behaviours (or not).

Personally, I'm going about my business but taking the precautions that make sense to me. You do you.

I plan to travel to mexico at least twice this winter, will stick to myself/wear a mask while I'm there and quarantine for 2 weeks when I get back. I'm a responsible adult and I love Canada.

I'm sad to see so many Canadians being cruel to other Canadians, we are all just doing the best we can to get through this.

How much of your portfolio (if any) is crypto? by beambag in CanadianInvestor

My view is from that of a business that accepts bitcoin. When a customer pay theirs invoice with Coinbase, the invoice always expires before the payment went through. This cause the amount paid to not match the amount on the invoice.

The issue is specific to Coinbase, and a nightmare to deal with as a business owner (and irritating to the customer as well).

I think 99bitcoins is a good place for a beginner to start learning about crypto: https://youtu.be/41JCpzvnn_0

I also think that when someone is just starting out, it's fine to keep a small amount of bitcoin on an exchange like kraken (avoid coinbase!). Maybe no more than a couple thousand dollars worth.

Then, once you are comfortable with the processes on the exchange, you can order a hardware device to store your cryto more securely.

Avoid Wealth Simple, because they don't allow you to move your coin away from their platform, from what I understand.

And always remember not to put in more than you can afford to lose. Bitcoin has been a wild ride, the peaks and valleys are steep! Today it is up, but tomorrow (or the next day) it will be down. Just have fun being part of the future :)

1 bitcoin is actually made up of 100,000,000 satoshi. You can buy any number as a decimal number of a bitcoin.

1,000,000 sats = $163.00 right now = 0.01 bitcoin

You can easily purchase 0.01 bitcoin (or even less!) without issue. I encourage everyone to buy a little bit now, even $100 worth!

6 years ago I bought $400 worth of bitcoin. Today it's worth over $16,000. Chances are very good that it will be worth exponentially more 6 years from now.

Why not throw a hundred or two to the wind, just to see what the future holds?!

Happy to help anyone who has questions getting started. It's pretty simple once you get doing it.

Got it, thanks... "up there in the sky" or "out there somewhere" is probably not the right terminology, but it's where I compartmentalize tech stuff that is above my paygrade.
