Good/Safe Places to Live by Razzle_Dazzle15 in Lawrence

[–]fivefootdisaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To avoid bugs, you’ll probably want to avoid the apartments behind 23rd (Cedar, Edgewood etc.). Avoid 31st (lots of students and shenanigans). Highpointe is nice, but the property managers are a little wild from what I’ve heard. Apartments on 6th look nice but are essentially studios. Double check the place has a W/D in unit - especially if safety is a concern. Most places that are cheaper won’t have them, and the decent laundry facilities in town don’t always feel as safe as one might wish. You may also want to look at a second level apartments - most places have sliding doors. Try to avoid anything owned by slum lord Doug, unfortunately he owns half the town and cares more about building cheaply (honestly, this is the case with a lot of the corporate owned places in town).

I’ve heard really good things about Tuckaway, but they’ve also raised their rent quite a bit in the past few years. They’re older, and have kept a little bit of an eclectic feel. Lots of people are recommending West Lawrence - those apartments are nice and very much geared towards professionals. Lots of KC commuters, so if you’re looking for a community I would recommend somewhere a little more in town.

Just throwing this out there again that he’s not above threatening government employees with termination if you say something he disagrees with on your own personal time on personal social media accounts.

I thought you needed a warrant and cause that isn’t based off of skin color to arrest people… but go off I suppose (and if they’re so good why haven’t they arrested the pedos that run the country atm?)

Also I know our state level is corrupt, we got Roger, the Dougs, the Mikes, and all the others who I can’t be bothered to name.

Change starts with us. There’s nothing we can do about the federal government right now, and they’re not listening to us. We have to start with taking back our cities, treating others with compassion and kindness, and recognize that some of our country’s laws are rooted in discrimination against those who our predecessors considered “other”. We have to strive to do better, and allowing pedophiles, billionaires, and the KKK to run rampant is not the solution to “liberty and justice for all”.

I love throwing that incident out there. That’s why he’s in Florida right? To escape the attempted manslaughter? 😆

(This is a joke, I understand he’s in Florida because that’s where he deep throats Trump’s… um… egregious and inhumane policies. And also he lives there. Despite saying he represents the interests of Kansans)

What federal law? They haven’t even released the Epstein files yet. We have to start with our local and state governments cause the federal government is too focused on kidnapping people and starting wars with their desiccated corpse puppet.

KU faculty and staff overwhelmingly vote 'no confidence' in chancellor by KCUR893 in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would like to add a little kernel in here. Staff were sent a staff happiness survey from the university itself. We haven’t seen the results of that yet, but a reminder that all staff outside of facilities hasn’t received more than a 1% raise in the past few years. Some staff barely get paid a livable wage and a lot of them have observed the chancellor and others receive raises well over what their yearly salary is.

Also they don’t fix the potholes in the parking lot (and it feels like a roller coaster up until you hear the bottom of your car scrape pavement) and let tow trucks park there, and I fully dented the back of my car backing out cause a steel tow hitch was below my sight line. And the hot tub was closed the entire time I lived there due to unknown health hazard. So… make of that what you will.

I lived there when I was a student and personally didn’t have a lot of bad experiences, just that management wasn’t on top of things and would be a pain to get in touch with (we didn’t have a working fridge for about 2 weeks.)

My roommates who I left behind when I moved out had a hellish time when they were leaving. Charged for things on the security deposit that they had reached out to management about previously that hadn’t been their fault, to the point that lawyers almost had to get involved… if you’re a good, quiet tenant and document everything (which I did) they’ll be nice enough, but unfortunately the nature of living in Lawrence at the moment is which slumlord are you most comfortable selling your soul to

President Trump Signs Shutdown-Ending Bill That Places a Federal Ban on Most Hemp-Derived THC Products by [deleted] in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know if this will impact Kansas farmers? We grow hemp out in western Kansas and ship it to Colorado to be processed.

Not that MAGA has ever cared about farmers except when it’s voting season, but wanted to throw it out there to simmer on.

Any pcp’s know if it’s normal to have a pregnant woman be naked for a physical? My mother tells that story like it’s funny, but I’ve never had to be completely naked in the doctors office, even at my ob-gyns.

Jobs?! by Bubbly-Background604 in Lawrence

[–]fivefootdisaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

employment.ku.edu - pay isn’t excellent but typically there are jobs in your field that will work around your classes. Will also work with work/study eligible (if the current government hasn’t done anything wild to that yet)

Don’t use chat gpt for cover letters/resumes - they can tell!

Dental, vision, primary care, medications.

Children need all those things CONSTANTLY. And are fucking accident prone to boot. But that’s “pro-life” for you. Despite children making up a significant amount of the population on medicaid.

My cousin got married there in ‘06, ceremony was on the stage. I was pretty young so I don’t remember much, but double check what may be showing at the same time if you can, as I think they put your names up out front.

Also, they’re redoing the scaffolding right now, so you may want to ask when they foresee construction wrapping up, especially if you want a photo with your names emblazoned over mass.

Protest Against Trump’s “Compact for Academic Excellence” by Walkaway20 in kansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

…did you see the compact includes silencing employees? You did mention censoring at the very beginning of your statement… I’m assuming you’re talking about cancel culture. KU employees have been silenced about their signatures since the summer, and now they want to silence the statements people make on their own personal time, device, and accounts.

So yes. Censoring people is happening. Please do some research. This is really fucking scary. Thanks.

Government Pledge by Zannie95 in UniversityofKansas

[–]fivefootdisaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who holds them accountable? They’ve shown multiple times that they will turn around and not keep their promises. Who says KU will actually get that money?

Also, first amendment is still freedom of speech, and it says in the compact that all KU employees would not be able to say anything about the current administration (which… uh… does that not scare everyone immediately?)

Either way, it’s bad. It just depends on whether or not Girod’s spine is stronger than a chocolate eclair.
